Dr. Muhammad Hashim Esmatullahi is an Afghan journalist and head of the Union of Afghan Journalists. He was Minister designate for Higher Education for the Afghan Government but was not confirmed by the Afghan Parliament. [1] [2]
Dr. Esmatullahi was born in 1955 in Wazirabad, Kabul. He is an ethnic Qizilbash. He received early education at the Naderia High School in 1975 and graduated from the Literature Department of Kabul University in 1979. He obtained a Master's degree in Journalism from Allameh Tabatabaei University, Tehran. He has been a lecturer at the Journalism Department of Kabul University since 2004. He also has been responsible for appointments to high government posts for the last two years as a member on the presidential consultation boards. [1]
He was the Acting Chairman of the independent commission for Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) in 2007.

Mohammed Zahir Shah was the last King of Afghanistan, reigning from 8 November 1933 until he was deposed on 17 July 1973. He expanded Afghanistan's diplomatic relations with many countries, including with both Cold War sides. In the 1950s, Zahir Shah began modernizing the country following the example of Turkey. His long reign was marked by peace and stability that was lost afterwards.
Mohammed Daoud Khan or Daud Khan was the 5th Prime Minister of Afghanistan from 1953 to 1963 and the President of Afghanistan from 1973 to 1978. Born into the royal family, he overthrew the Musahiban monarchy of his first cousin Mohammed Zahir Shah and declared himself as the first President of Afghanistan in 1973 with Soviet backing. He would hold this position until his assassination in 1978 during the Saur Revolution led by the communist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) after he fell out of favor with the USSR. Khan was known for his progressive policies, efforts to improve women's rights, Pashtun nationalism, irredentist claims to land in northwest Pakistan, and for initiating two five-year modernization plans which increased the labor force by about 50 percent. The 1978 coup and assassination plunged Afghanistan into an ongoing civil war.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar is an Afghan politician and former warlord. He is the founder and current leader of the Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin political party. He has twice served as Prime Minister of Afghanistan during the 1990s.
Dr. Ahmad Yusuf Nuristani is a former politician from Afghanistan. He has served as governor of Herat province from January 2009 to August 2010. In September 2018, President Ashraf Ghani appointed Nuristani to the Wolesi Jirga, the upper body of parliament in Afghanistan. From 2005 to 2008 he was the 1st Deputy Defense Minister, Government of Afghanistan.

The Afghan Northern Alliance, officially known as the United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan, was a united military front that came to formation in late 1996 after the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) took over Kabul. The United Front was assembled by key leaders of the Islamic State of Afghanistan, particularly president Burhanuddin Rabbani and former Defense Minister Ahmad Shah Massoud. Initially it included mostly Tajiks but by 2000, leaders of other ethnic groups had joined the Northern Alliance. This included Abdul Rashid Dostum, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Abdul Qadir, Asif Mohseni and others.

Abdul Hai Habibi – ʿAbd' ul-Ḥay Ḥabībi) was a prominent Afghan historian for much of his lifetime as well as a member of the National Assembly of Afghanistan during the reign of King Zahir Shah. Abdullah Abdullah is an Afghan politician who served as Chief Executive Officer of the Unity Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan from September 2014 until March 2020. From October 2001 to April 2005, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Prior to that he was a senior member of the Northern Alliance working as an adviser to Ahmad Shah Massoud. He also worked as a medical doctor during the late 1990s.
Dr. Zabihullah Mojaddidy is an old politician in Afghanistan. He served as the Governor of Kabul Province between July 2009 and until resigning in March 2011. His resignation was due to a lack of support from development ministries and the Presidential Palace in regard to his ideas for the reconstruction of Kabul City. Prior to becoming governor, he served as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
Muhammad Yunus Nawandish was the Mayor of Kabul from after his appointment by Afghan President Hamid Karzai in January 2010. During his time in office the Mayor initiated an aggressive program of municipal improvements in streets, parks, greenery, revenue collection, environmental control, and solid waste management.
