Muhammad Ismail is a Pakistani politician who has been a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly since November 2020.
Muhammad Ismail hails from Saltoro Siachen valley,Gilgit Baltistan. He got his Engineering degree in mechanical engineering from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in 1992..
Ismail contested for Northern Area Assembly from NA-LA 24 in 1994 as an independent candidate and joined PPP after winning the election. In 1999,2004,and 2009 he won from the same constituency four times consecutively on Pakistan People Party ticket. In 2013 he lost to PMLN’s candidate by 30 votes,later on he challenged the results in court and won the election by 1 vote. He contested in the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election on 15 November 2020 from GBA-24 (Ghanche-III) on the ticket of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He won the election by 573 votes over the runner up Syed Shamsuddin of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He garnered 6,239 votes while Shamsuddin received 5,666 votes. He sits as a opposition in GB legislative assembly. And after 2.5 year the PTI Government was finished and anew Government was established. In this Government he selected as Senior minister and give a charge of finance minister. He win 6 consecutive elections on the behalf of Pakistan Peoples Party.
Currently Engineer Ismail also holds the position of provincial General Secretary of Pakistan People party. [1]

In the 2009 election,Ayub Shah again contested the election as an independent candidate from GBLA 21 Ghizer and defeated the then General Sectary of the Pakistan People's Party Ghulam Muhammad. He then joined Pakistan Peoples Party and became a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly from 2009 to 2015. In the 2015 and 2020 elections,he contested the election from the PPP ticket and lost to Raja Jahanzeb and Gulam Muhammad. In 2021 Pakistan People's Party awarded their ticket to Muhammad Ayub Shah to contest in the GB Council election and Ayub Shah came victorious after getting a decisive vote from a nationalist leader Nawaz Khan Naji.
