Mumbai Godfather is the name of an Indian Bollywood film directed by Deepak Balraj Vij released on 23 September 2005.
The protagonist of the film is Romeo (Vikram Singh), who is in love with Shalu (Rinku Ghosh), an exotic dancer. He visits the pub where she works which gets raided by the police. He is arrested for possession of a firearm. The gun was handed to him seconds before the raid began by the character Manoj Masti Bhai (manoj Joshi).
Romeo becomes the victim of police brutality in prison. Angered by his mistreatment, he swears vengeance and, upon his release, solicits the help of Mumbai underworld don Vijay Bhaichara (Govind Namdeo) so as to kill Masti Bhai. The law, represented by encounter specialist Anjali (Seema Biswas) is on to grab the killer. Meanwhile, Romeo is getting in deeper with the criminal world in Mumbai. He forms a gang with Shalu and Vijay Bhaichara. Vijay has a falling-out with Romeo after Romeo kills a wealthy businessman named Naresh Jindal without informing Vijay.
An enraged Vijay becomes Romeo's arch rival. He sides with Inspector Anjali to finish Romeo in an encounter. One by one, Romeo's associates and friends are killed.
Eventually, Romeo decides to abandon his life of crime and start anew. However, his past catches up with him. Romeo is involved in an altercation with the law in which he is shot 6 times, but somehow survives.
The film was reviewed by Indian film critic Taran Adarsh who had a low regard for it, calling it "dull fare". He wrote that the film's plotline was formulaic, and based on a premise that has been done many times before in Indian cinema. Yet, he express some admiration for Seema Biswas's character.
Bandit Queen is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language biographical action-adventure film based on the life of Phoolan Devi as covered in the book India's Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi by the Indian author Mala Sen. It was written, produced, and directed by Shekhar Kapur and starred Seema Biswas as the title character. The music was composed by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie and Best Direction for that year. The film was premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. The film was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 67th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Aftab Shivdasani is an Indian actor, producer and model known for his works in Hindi and also working for Tamil and Kannada film industry. Shivdasani was selected as the Farex baby at the age of 14 months and eventually appeared in many TV commercials for the product. He started his career as a child artist in films like Mr. India (1987), Shahenshah (1988), ChaalBaaz (1989), Awwal Number (1990), C.I.D. (1990) and Insaniyat (1994).
Dil Hai Tumhaara is a 2002 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Kundan Shah. The film stars Preity Zinta in the central part of Shalu, a young woman who, unbeknownst to her, was born out of wedlock and, following her parents' death, was begrudgingly adopted by her father's wife (Rekha), who has never accepted her as her own and whose love Shalu has been craving since childhood. Mahima Chaudhry, Arjun Rampal, Jimmy Sheirgill and Alok Nath play supporting roles. The film was promoted as a star vehicle for Zinta and, although a commercial failure on release, Zinta's performance was praised by critics and earned her nominations for Best Actress at a number of award ceremonies. The soundtrack, composed by Nadeem-Shravan, did well on the charts.
The Filmfare Best Screenplay Award is given by the Filmfare magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films.
Hulchul (transl. Commotion) is a 2004 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Priyadarshan. It is a remake of the 1991 Malayalam film Godfather. The film stars an ensemble cast with Akshaye Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Farha Naaz, and Laxmi. It was a critical and commercial success.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language satirical comedy drama film written, edited and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Abhijat Joshi, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra under the production banner of Vinod Chopra Films. The film was released worldwide on 1 September 2006, and is the second installment of the Munna Bhai film series after its prequel, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003). Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi reprised their roles as Munna Bhai, a gangster in the Mumbai underworld, and his sidekick, Circuit, respectively. Vidya Balan portrays the female lead, replacing Gracy Singh from the original, while several other actors from the prequel, notably Jimmy Sheirgill and Boman Irani, appear in new roles, and Dia Mirza also appears in a small role in the film. In this film, the eponymous lead character begins to see the soul of Mahatma Gandhi, which is portrayed by Dilip Prabhavalkar. Through his interactions with Gandhi, he begins to practice what he refers to as "Gandhigiri" to help ordinary people solve their problems.
Bhagam Bhag is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language comedy film directed by Priyadarshan and written by Neeraj Vora. It is based on the Malayalam film Mannar Mathai Speaking (1995), was directed by duo Siddique–Lal. It was produced by Sunil Shetty and Dhilin Mehta under their banners Popcorn Motion Pictures and Shree Ashtavinayak Vision Limited. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Govinda and Paresh Rawal as the three leads alongside Lara Dutta, Rajpal Yadav, Jackie Shroff, Arbaaz Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, Razak Khan, Sharat Saxena and Asrani. The film adapted certain subplots of Malayalam film Mannar Mathai Speaking which itself was based on the 1958 movie Vertigo.
