Manoj N. Joshi (born 14 December 1965) is an Indian actor known for working in film, stage and television. [2] He has also acted in over 70 films since 1998, many of his roles being comic roles. Joshi is the recipient of several awards including a National Film Award. In 2018, Joshi was awarded with the Padma Shri. [3] He is the vice-president of the Bombay Art Society. [4]

After graduating from Sir J. J. School of Arts, he began his career in Marathi theatre, also putting up performances in Gujarati and Hindi theatre.

He acted in TV series including Chanakya , [5] Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka , [5] Rau (Marathi), Sangdil , Kabhi Souten Kabhi Saheli, Mura Raska Mai La (Marathi). He debuted in Sarfarosh (SI Bajju) alongside his brother who played Bala Thakur in the film. His other works include the film Hungama followed by Hulchul , Dhoom , Bhagam Bhag , [6] Chup Chup Ke , Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Billu . [7] He played the role of Chanakya in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat . Joshi is popularly known for playing Kachra Seth in Phir Hera Pheri (2006).

Personal life

His father was Navneet Joshi, and his younger brother Rajesh Joshi was an actor too. Rajesh died in 1998. [15] Joshi hails from Adpodara village near Himatnagar in north Gujarat.

Joshi suffered a stroke while filming Devdas with Sanjay Leela Bhansali due to which he lost his vision and was bedridden for a year and a half. [16]

Lakshman Shastri Joshi was an Indian scholar, of Sanskrit, Hindu Dharma, and a Marathi literary critic, and supporter of Indian independence. Mahatma Gandhi chose him to be his principal advisor in his campaign against untouchability. Joshi was the first recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award in year 1955. He was also awarded with two of the India's highest civilian honours Padma Bhushan in 1973 and Padma Vibhushan in 1992

No Means No is an upcoming Indo-Polish romantic thriller film, which was shot simultaneously in three languages: English, Hindi and Polish. Produced by G7 Films Poland and directed by Vikash Verma, it stars Dhruv Verma, Gulshan Grover, Sharad Kapoor and Anna Guzik. The film follows an Indian ski champion, who participates in a ski championship in Poland. There he falls in love with a Polish girl. Initially scheduled to be released on 22 March 2021, but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. but release was again pushed back to 17 June 2022. The film was expected to release on 26 July 2024. Now the film is releasing on 20 December 2024.
