There are only three theatres in southern Chhattisgarh and the condition of the rest of the state is not good either. We need to reach a wider audience., Sharma on the state of movies in Chhattisgarh. [3]

Ramanuj Sharma was born on 15 May 1976, to Teken Lal Sharma and Dehuti Sharma, at Bhatapara in Raipur in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. [4] [5] He did his schooling at a local school in Bhatapara [5] and, later, secured a master's degree in history from the Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. [4]

Anuj Sharma is married to Smita Sharma and lives with the couple and their children in Labhandi, Raipur. Earlier he lived in Sant Kabir Nagar, Raipur. [6]

Political career

In June 2023, Sharma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party from Bhatapara Assembly constituency. After this, in October, he got the ticket to contest elections from Dharsiwa Assembly constituency and became the MLA.[ citation needed ]

Film career

Anuj Sharma started acting and singing at the age of ten. [5] After a brief stint as the marketing executive at Godrej, [7] [ better source needed ] Sharma made his debut in the 2000 film, Mor Chhaihan Bhuiyan, [8] considered to be the first of the modern era of Chhattisgarhi film history, which was till then at a nascent stage; the first of the Chhattisgarhi films was made only in 1965 and the second one in 1971. [5] The film became a commercial success. [9]

The success of the debut film elevated Anuj to stardom [9] which saw him making eight releases a year and 4 silver jubilee hits, the only lead actor to do so in Chhattisgarhi films. [5] The career, which featured successful movies like Maya, [9] Mister Tetkuram [10] and Mahu Diwana Tahu Diwani, also saw him getting the best actor award four times. [2] The prolificacy of his acting career also returned two of his films being released on the same day. [5] Sharma's films have been dubbed into many other languages such as Sambalpuri, Jharkhandi, Bundelkhandi, Gujarati, and Bhojpuri. He has also acted in a number of Bhojpuri films. [5]

Anuj Sharma has active presence on stage and television, with more than 300 stage shows in various parts of central India.[ citation needed ] He is also associated with UNICEF for the campaigns in Chhattisgarh.[ citation needed ] He has also performed as radio jockey in the National FM channel and was the first Chhattisgarhi compere.[ citation needed ] He has compered around 125 television shows so far. [5] He has also made advertisement and promotion films for the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board and for other commercial institutions as well. [5]

A Chhattisgarhi folk singer by practice, Sharma is reported to be at ease singing all styles of Chhattisgarhi folk songs. He has over 100 video albums, has sung over 200 film and folk songs, and has composed music for 10 audio albums. [5] He also owns a music label called "Aaarug Music".[ citation needed ]

Anuj Sharma was listed by the Times of India among the Kings of the Provinces when they published a special report in connection with the 100 years of Indian Cinema celebrations, placing him among the stalwarts of Indian cinema such as M. G. Ramachandran, N. T. Rama Rao and Mohanlal. [5]

Habib Tanvir was one of the most popular Indian Urdu, Hindi playwrights, a theatre director, poet and actor. He was the writer of plays such as, Agra Bazar (1954) and Charandas Chor (1975). A pioneer in Urdu and Hindi theatre, he was most known for his work with Chhattisgarhi tribals, at the Naya Theatre, a theatre company he founded in 1959 in Bhopal. He went on to include indigenous performance forms such as nacha, to create not only a new theatrical language, but also milestones such as Charandas Chor, Gaon ka Naam Sasural, Mor Naam Damad and Kamdeo ka Apna Basant Ritu ka Sapna.

Baloda Bazar - Bhatapara is a district in Chhattisgarh state of India with its headquarters at Baloda Bazar. Before its creation, it was a part of Raipur district. The border of Balodabazar-Bhatapara district touches Bemetara, Mungeli, Bilaspur, Janjgir, Raigarh, Mahasamund and Raipur districts. Krishn Kanhai, born on 21 August 1961, is an Indian artist and painter, specialist in portrait, realistic, contemporary paintings and on lord Radha-Krishna theme paintings. A Padmshri awardee, Kanhai is described as an artist with the midas touch.

Govind Ram Nirmalkar (1935–2014) was an Indian actor and folk theatre artist, known for his contributions to the Nacha folk theatre of Chhattisgarh. His portrayal of the protagonist in Charan Das Chor, an award winning play by Habib Tanveer, won him critical acclaim. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2009, for his contributions to Arts. He was also a recipient of the 2012 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Mamta Chandrakar has started singing from the age of 10 years and professionally took it as folk singer in 1977 with Aakashvani Kendra Raipur. She is a Padmashree Awardee in 2016 for her work, she has bagged several other state-level awards. Her husband Prem Chandrakar is a producer and director in Chhollywood.

Kahi Debe Sandesh is a 1965 Chhattisgarhi film written, directed and produced by Manu Nayak. It was released in 1965 and became the first film in the Chhattisgarhi language. It dealt with contemporary social issues such as untouchability and caste discrimination.

Anup Ranjan Pandey is an Indian traditional Chhattisgarhi folk theatre artist of national and international repute. His commitment to the circulation of traditional music of tribes of Bastar has led to the origination and emergence of Bastar Band, the ensemble which, under his direction, associates with the tribal artists from various dialects of Bastar.
