Gurcharan Singh is an Indian painter, known for his figurative paintings. [1] He was born in 1949 at Patiala, in the Indian state of Punjab and studied at Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chandigarh. [2] He has had several and group exhibitions in India and abroad and his works were exhibited at the International Biennale in Tokyo in 1984, at the Contemporary Art Show in Seoul in 1986 and the Festival of Contemporary Art in London in 1988. [2] The Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and India House, Paris have his on display at their premises. [3] His signature paintings are based on the people from financially compromised classes; The Red Light in Black and White and Les Miserables are two of his notable works. [4]
The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is the premier art gallery under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The main museum at Jaipur House in New Delhi was established on 29 March 1954 by the Government of India, with subsequent branches at Mumbai and Bangalore. Its collection of more than 1700 works by 2000 plus artists includes artists such as Thomas Daniell, Raja Ravi Verma, Abanindranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil as well as foreign artists. Some of the oldest works preserved here date back to 1857. With 12,000 square meters of exhibition space, the Delhi branch is one of the world's largest modern art museums.

Lalita Lajmi is an Indian painter. Lalita is a self-taught artist born into a family involved in the arts, and was very fond of classical dance even as a child. She is the sister of Hindi film director, producer, and actor Guru Dutt. In 1994 she was invited to the Guru Dutt Film Festival, organised by Gopal Krishna Gandhi - Indian High Commission at Nehru Centre, London. Her work is also influenced by Indian films such as those made by her brother, Satyajit Ray and Raj Kapoor.

Jyotindra Manshankar Bhatt, better known as Jyoti Bhatt, is an Indian artist best known for his modernist work in painting and printmaking and also his photographic documentation of rural Indian culture. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.

The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 1992.

Madhvi Parekh is an Indian contemporary artist living in New Delhi.
The GROUP 1890 exhibition was held from 20 to 29 October 1963 at Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi, India. It was the only exhibition of the artist collective 'group 1890', hence the only existing record of the group's exhibition history in the 1960s contemporary art in India. The group was an entirely male association with 12 members which 'stood passionately and romantically for values of modernism that signaled change'. The members were Raghav Kaneria, M. Reddeppa Naidu, Ambadas Khobragade, Rajesh Mehra, Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Jagdish Swaminathan, Himmat Shah, Jeram Patel, S. G. Nikam, Eric Bowen, Jyoti Bhatt, and Balkrishna Patel. All of which participated in this inaugural exhibition.
