Ava White was a 12-year-old girl who was murdered by a 14-year-old boy on 25 November 2021, in the English city of Liverpool. [1] She was stabbed after a row over a Snapchat video. The boy has not been named for legal reasons. [2]
Ava was a student of Notre Dame Catholic College in Everton. [3]
On 25 November 2021, Ava and her friends, aged between 11 and 15 were playing and sharing alcohol [4] near the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool while waiting for the switching on of the Christmas lights. [5]
A teenage boy and his friends, aged between 13 and 15 started filming them with intent to share it on Snapchat. [6] Ava [7] asked them to stop and delete the recording. The unarmed girls ran towards the group of boys and the 14-year-old boy stabbed her in the neck with a knife, laughed and ran away. [8]
The teenage boy and his friends shortly fled the scene, and disposed of evidence before entering a nearby corner shop and purchasing butter, which Ava’s killer said was “to use on crumpets”. [9] The mother of the boy was contacted by police shortly after the stabbing of Ava. She quickly texted the boy to inform him that the police were searching for him and he replied shortly after to tell her that he was “Not coming home, not going the cells” [10] Four teenage boys were arrested by police in Toxteth later that night. Ava was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital but was pronounced dead at 10.16 pm. [12]
On 28 November 2021, the boy was charged with the murder of Ava White and was also charged with carrying a blade. He was remanded into custody and the three other boys were released without charge. [13]
Following a two-week trial at Liverpool Crown Court, the boy who had initially denied [14] murdering Ava by saying it was another boy, later claimed to have acted in self-defence. [15] The court was shown CCTV footage, police recorded interviews were presented and a 20-second clip showing the stabbing were played during the trial of the boy. [16] Her friends also testified. [17] Among the footage presented in court is of him and a friend throwing away his coat and knife as they ran from the scene of the murder. [18]
He was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years. [19]
Ava was murdered on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. [14] She is believed to be the youngest victim of knife violence in the UK since Damilola Taylor in 2000. [14]

The murder of Tessa Majors occurred near Morningside Park in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, on December 11, 2019. Majors, an eighteen-year-old student at Barnard College, was attacked and stabbed by three teenagers as part of a robbery. Derek Michael Chauvin is an American former police officer who murdered George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American man, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On May 25, 2020, Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for about nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on the street, calling out "I can't breathe," during an arrest made with three other officers. Chauvin was dismissed by the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) on May 26 and arrested on May 29. The murder set off a series of protests in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, across the United States and around the world.
On 10 May 2021, shortly after 14:30 NZST, four people were stabbed at the Countdown supermarket in central Dunedin, New Zealand. The victims were two shoppers and two staff members, reportedly in the area close to the supermarket pharmacy. The attacker stabbed four people in a rampage, seriously injuring three of them. All four stabbing victims were admitted to Dunedin Hospital, with three in the ICU; and was reported that all four remained in hospital, with three in serious but stable conditions.
Cameron Blair was an Irish man who was fatally stabbed in the neck at a house party on the Bandon Road in Cork, Ireland on 16 January 2020. As the perpetrator was seventeen years old at the time of the killing, his name cannot be published under Irish law. The seventeen-year-old was reported to have gatecrashed the party alongside two other teenagers who were charged with less serious offences. Olly Stephens was a 13-year-old schoolboy who was fatally stabbed in a field close to his home in Reading in Berkshire, England on 3 January 2021. The subsequent police investigation found that he had been lured to the field by a 14-year-old girl, where he was attacked by two boys aged 13 and 14, the younger of whom was armed with a knife.
On 22 August 2022, Olivia Pratt-Korbel, a nine-year-old girl, was shot by Thomas Cashman in Liverpool, England, and was pronounced dead the same day at the city's Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The attack took place at the doorstep of the Pratt-Korbel's family home in Dovecot; the intended target of the attack was Joseph Nee, a 35-year-old gang member who had criminal convictions for drug dealing and burglary. During the attack, Olivia Pratt-Korbel was with her mother. A shot by Cashman passed through her mother's hand and into Olivia Pratt-Korbel's chest.

The murder of Tristyn Bailey took place on May 9, 2021, on Mother's Day, in St. Johns County, Florida. Bailey, a 13-year-old middle schooler and cheerleader, was murdered by Aiden Fucci, a 14-year-old schoolmate. Bailey was reported missing by her family that morning; Bailey's body was found later that day by a resident in a wooded area near St. Johns. Her body had 114 stab wounds.
