Murung is a district in Murung Raya Regency, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia . [1] This district is also the center of government of Murung Raya Regency with the name Puruk Cahu.
West Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. It is one of five Indonesian provinces comprising Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. Its capital and largest city is Pontianak. It is bordered by East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan to the east, the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the north, and the Bangka Belitung Islands to the west and the Java Sea to the south. The province has an area of 147,037 km2, and had a population of 4,395,983 at the 2010 Census and 5,414,390 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 5,623,328, and was projected to rise to 5,695,500 at mid 2024. Ethnic groups include the Dayak, Malay, Chinese, Javanese, Bugis, and Madurese. The borders of West Kalimantan roughly trace the mountain ranges surrounding the vast watershed of the Kapuas River, which drains most of the province. The province shares land borders with Central Kalimantan to the southeast, East Kalimantan to the east, and the Malaysian territory of Sarawak to the north.
Central Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. It is one of five provinces in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. Punan Bah or Punan is an ethnic group found in Sarawak, Malaysia and Kalimantan, Indonesia. The Punan Bah people are distinct and unrelated to the semi-nomadic Penan people. Their name stems from two rivers along the banks of which they have been living since time immemorial. They have other names including Mikuang Bungulan or Mikuang and Aveang Buan but those are used only ritually nowadays.
Bakumpai or Baraki are indigenous people of Borneo and are considered as a sub-ethnic group of the Dayak Ngaju people group with Islamic background. The Bakumpai people first occupy along the Barito riverbanks in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, from Marabahan to Puruk Cahu, Murung Raya Regency. The Bakumpai people first appeared as a newly recognized people group in census 2000 and were made up of 7.51% of Central Kalimantan population, which before this the Bakumpai people were considered as part of the Dayak people in a 1930 census.
Murung Raya Regency is the most northerly of the thirteen regencies (kabupaten) which comprise the province of Central Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, Indonesia. It was created on 10 April 2002 from the former northwestern two-thirds of the North Barito Regency. The capital of the regency is the town of Puruk Cahu. The regency covers an area of 23,700 km2 and had a population of 96,857 inhabitants at the 2010 census and 111,527 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 116,621.
East Barito Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was formed on 10 April 2002 from districts which were formerly part of South Barito Regency. The town of Tamiang Layang is the capital of East Barito Regency, which covers an area of 3,834 km2. The population of the Regency was 97,372 at the 2010 Census and 113,229 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 117,312.
North Barito Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which divide the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan, Indonesia. It originally included much more of the northern part of the province, but on 10 April 2002 the larger northwestern part of the regency was split off to create a new Murung Raya Regency. Muara Teweh is the capital of North Barito Regency, which covers an area of 10,152.25 km2. The population of North Barito Regency was 121,573 at the 2010 Census and 154,812 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 160,605.
Kapuas Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which divide Central Kalimantan Province, on the island of Kalimantan, Indonesia. It formerly covered a wider area, but on 10 April 2002 two further regencies were cut out of its western districts, and the residual area is now 17,070.39 km.2 Its population was 329,646 at the 2010 Census and 410,446 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 425,186. The administrative centre is the town of Kuala Kapuas near the coast, but the largest town is Selat, which includes 8 of the regency's 15 urban kelurahan, and had 72,382 inhabitants in mid 2023.
Seruyan Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was created on 10 April 2002 from what were previously the western districts of East Kotawaringin Regency. The town of Kuala Pembuang in Seruyan Hilir District is the capital of Seruyan Regency. The population of the Regency was 139,931 at the 2010 Census and 162,906 at the 2020 census; the official estimate was at mid 2023 was 154,377.
Kubu Raya Regency or Great Kubu Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was created on 17 July 2007 from the (larger) central and southern part of what was at that time the Pontianak Regency. It covers an area of 8,567.99 km2, and it had a population of 500,970 at the 2010 Census and 609,392 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 639,250. The principal town lies at Sungai Raya, directly adjacent to the City of Pontianak. Despite its close location to Pontianak, the regional capital and economic centre of the West Kalimantan Province, Kubu Raya highly lacks sufficient infrastructure development, which has caused general suspicions regarding the performance of its local government.

The population of this town is roughly 46,652 people as of 2021.

Puruk Cahu is the regency seat of Murung Raya Regency and also one of the towns in Central Kalimantan. This town is at a distance of 322 km northeast of Palangka Raya city, the capital of Central Kalimantan Province. The area of this town mainly includes two kelurahan in the district of Murung i.e. the kelurahan of Beriwit and the kelurahan of Puruk Cahu itself. The population of this town is approximately 21,781 people as of 2021.
Kuala Kapuas is the regency seat of Kapuas Regency and also one of the major towns in Central Kalimantan. This town is at a distance of 137 km northeast of Palangka Raya city, the capital of Central Kalimantan Province. The area of this town is mainly situated within six urban villages (kelurahan) and two rural districts (desa) in the district of Selat i.e. the kelurahan of Selat Barat, Selat Dalam, Selat Tengah, Selat Hulu, Selat Hilir and Selat Utara, and the desa of Pulau Telo, and Pulau Telo Baru. The total population of Kuala Kapuas as of 2019 was approximately 55,573 people
The Hasan Basri Bridge is a bridge that crosses the Barito River located in Muara Teweh, Indonesia. The bridge is approximately 270 meters long and 5 meters wide and has an Australian-made steel frame. Construction on the bridge began in 1990. The name of the bridge is taken from a figure born in Muara Teweh, namely the former chairman of the central MUI, namely the K.H. Hasan Basri. The Hasan Basri Bridge is largely used to transport passengers and goods from the road that connects North Barito Regency and Murung Raya Regency and Banjarmasin. The bridge was inaugurated on February 19, 1995, by the Indonesian Minister of Information, Harmoko.
