Musarrat Hilali (born 8 August 1961) is a Pakistani judge who has become the second female judge to be elevated to the country's Supreme Court. [1] She previously served as the first woman Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court. [2] From March 2013 till her elevation to the Supreme Court in July 2023,she had been the only woman on the bench of the Peshawar High Court. [3]
Hilali received the law degree from the Khyber Law College,Peshawar University. [4]
She started her career as an advocate of District Courts in 1983. In 1988,she was enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court. She was elevated to the rank of Advocate of Supreme Court in 2006. Hilali was elevated to the bench as Additional Judge in March 2013 and was given the permanent status of the Judge of the Peshawar High Court in 2014. She took oath as the Acting Chief Justice of the PHC on 1 April 2023 and then as the permanent Chief Justice on 12 May of the same year. [4]
On 14 June 2023,after being recommended by Justice Qazi Faez Isa,the Judicial Commission of Pakistan unanimously approved Hilali's elevation to the Supreme Court. [5] On 5 July 2023,she was appointed by President Arif Alvi as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan,becoming the second women to be elevated to the post after Ayesha A. Malik. [1]
The Peshawar High Court is the provincial and highest judicial institution of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. It is located in the provincial capital Peshawar. The Parliament passed a bill extending the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court (SC) and the Peshawar High Court to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA),one of a handful of reforms paving the way for a merger of the tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dost Muhammad Khan is a Pakistani jurist who remained a senior justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan from 1 February 2014 to 20 March 2018. Previously,he served as Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court from 17 November 2011 to 31 January 2014. Waqar Ahmed Seth was a Pakistani jurist who was the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court between June 2018 and November 2020. Qaiser Rashid Khan was a Pakistani jurist and the chief justice of Peshawar High Court from 9 January 2021 to 31 March 2023. Born in Thana,Malakand,Khan earned his law degree from Khyber Law College and his Master of Arts degrees in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Peshawar before beginning his career in law. His tenure at the Peshawar High Court began in 2011,and he subsequently held various positions,including Senior Justice and Acting Chief Justice,before his death in 2024.

On 5 August 2023,after the approval of the results of the 2023 digital census by the Council of Common Interests headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,elections have been delayed for several months,as new delimitations will be published on 14 December 2023. On 2 November 2023,the Election Commission of Pakistan announced,in agreement with the President of Pakistan,Arif Alvi,that the elections will be held on 8 February 2024. This election will be held concurrently with nationwide general elections and other provincial elections.
