Music Fest Perugia is a summer classical music festival held annually since 2007 in Perugia, Italy for high-level young classical musicians.

Perugia is the capital city of both the region of Umbria in central Italy, crossed by the river Tiber, and of the province of Perugia. The city is located about 164 kilometres north of Rome and 148 km southeast of Florence. It covers a high hilltop and part of the valleys around the area. The region of Umbria is bordered by Tuscany, Lazio, and Marche.

Formation

The festival was founded by Ilana Vered and Peter Hermes in 2006 in Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy hosting 8 students in its first year. In 2007 the festival moved to the city of Perugia and has since grown, currently hosting more than 200 students, 50 professors and multiple orchestras. [1] [2]

Monte Castello di Vibio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Perugia in the Italian region Umbria, located about 30 km south of Perugia. Monte Castello di Vibio borders the following municipalities: Fratta Todina, San Venanzo, Todi.

It is currently under the management of artistic director Ilana Vered and her former student, Sasha Starcevich, an internationally-renowned piano teacher, who serves as co-director. Peter Hermes is the executive director.

General information

The festival attracts advanced-level young classical musicians from all over the world, who get the opportunity to perform concerti with orchestra as well as participate in lessons and master classes and perform in marathon recitals and in chamber music events. The festival also produces an opera. The concerts take place in halls such as Basilica di San Pietro, Sala dei Notari, Teatro Pavone, most of them famous for their extraordinary acoustics. [1]

Many of the festival's students have won prizes at national and international levels, including YoungArts, MTNA, Canadian Music Competition, Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition, Young Concert Artists, Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Cleveland International Piano Competition, the Southeastern Piano Festival and many others. They have continued their education at prestigious universities and conservatories, including Stanford University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and The Juilliard School.

The National YoungArts Foundation or YoungArts is an American charity established in 1981 by Lin and Ted Arison to help nurture emerging high-school artists. The foundation is based in Miami, Florida, and alumni of the program have included Timothée Chalamet, Kerry Washington, Matthew Bomer, Billy Porter, Anna Gunn, Andrew Rannells, Kimiko Glenn, Ben Ross, Sam Lipsyte, Chris Young, Neal Dodson, Viola Davis, Nicki Minaj, Doug Aitken, and Max Schneider.

The Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition was founded in 2002 by Alexander Braginsky in collaboration with the Yamaha Corporation. It took place every two years in Minneapolis–Saint Paul before the 2008 edition was delayed to 2009 due to the arrangement of a junior edition of the competition. The -e- refers to the competition's focus on Internet and Disklavier technologies. The e-competition is one of the biggest, most significant competitions available for young artists. Many of its past competitors have gone on to achieve significant success on the global competition/concert stage.

Young Concert Artists is a New York City-based non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting the careers of talented young classical musicians from all over the world. The competition, founded in 1961, allows artists from all over the world to compete as individuals or in a chamber group, such as a string quartet. The number of winners varies from year to year, as there is no specified limit to the number of participants who can win.

Vladimir Milošević is a Serbian concert pianist. Proclaimed as “one of the most prominent Serbian pianists of his generation,” Milošević's honors include winning numerous international competitions, such as the 2013 Rising Artist Concerto Presentation by the New York Concert Artists & Associates, Concerti in Villa, Nikolai Rubinstein, Rencontre internationale de piano au Mée-sur-Seine, and Torneo internazionale di musica in Marseille.
