N. V. Natarajan was an Indian politician of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was a founding member of the DMK. He served as the Minister of Labour and Backward Classes in the Tamil Nadu government during 1969-75. [1]
N. V. Natarajan was born on 12 November 1912 in a famous Tuluva Vellala merchant family of Madras. Initially he was a member of Indian National Congress. During 1938-46 he was a member of the Justice Party (later renamed as Dravidar Kazhagam). In 1949,he along with C. N. Annadurai,K. A. Mathiazhagan,E. V. K. Sampath and V. R. Nedunchezhiyan split from the Dravidar Kazhagam and formed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He was the party's organisational secretary from 1960 until his death. He unsuccessfully contested the 1957 and 1962 assembly elections from the Basin Bridge constituency. In 1964,he was nominated to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council. He was the minister for Labour and Backward Classes in the M. Karunanidhi cabinet during 1969-75. He died on 3 August 1975. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Natarajan and his wife,Bhuvaneshwari Natarajan,had seven children. One of his sons,N. V. N. Somu,later became a member of Parliament as a DMK candidate. [5] [6]

Kalyanasundaram Anbazhagan was an Indian politician. He was a long-standing leader of the Dravidian movement and was the General Secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party for nine terms. He has held several cabinet ministerial portfolios in the Tamil Nadu government under M. Karunanidhi including Finance,Education and Health and Social Welfare. Si. Balasubramania Athithan 27 September 1905 –24 May 1981),popularly called as "Adithanar",was an Indian lawyer,politician,minister and founder of the Tamil daily newspaper Dina Thanthi. He was the founder of the We Tamils party. He served as a member of the Madras Legislative Council for two terms and as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for four terms. He was the Speaker of the Assembly during 1967–68 and Tamil Nadu's minister for Cooperation in the M. Karunanidhi cabinets of 1969 and 1971. In his memory,two Tamil literary awards were created and are awarded annually by his son,Sivanthi Adithanar.

The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganization of Madras state in 1954. Indian National Congress and its leader K. Kamaraj won the election,and defeated its rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954,due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari,for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam,the leadership of Congress was contested,between K. Kamaraj,and C. Subramaniam. Eventually,K. Kamaraj,won the support of the party,was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move,he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam,in his cabinet,allowing great unity amongst Congress,that ruled the state of Madras,for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders,M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan winning their first MLA seat in the legislative assembly.
The third legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 21 February 1962. The Indian National Congress party,led by K. Kamaraj,won the election. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam made significant in-roads in the election and emerged as the second party for the first time by winning 50 seats.

Late ShriS. Natarajan Udayar was an Indian politician and 3 time DMK MLA from Thanjavur Constituency. A close friend and supporter of Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy,he was an early member of Dravidar Kazhagam. His association with Aringar C N Annadurai made him part ways with E.V.R. politically and join Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as one of the earliest and founding members of DMK.

Sathyavani Muthu was an Indian politician and an influential leader from Chennai,Tamil Nadu. She was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu,Rajya Sabha member and Union Minister. She began her political career as a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam,began her own party,Thazhthapattor Munnetra Kazhagam and later joined the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In late 1990s,she again joined in DMK.
S. Muthu (1915-1984) was a Tamil Social activist of the Dravidar Kazhagam and one of the five founding leaders along with CN Annadurai,Nedunchezhian,NV Natarajan and Mathiazhgan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and emerged a king maker when CN Annadurai died during DMK's first term in power and helped his then ally Muthuvel Karunanidhi to emerge as the leader of the party and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He was the chief ally of Karunanidhi when the later ousted MG Ramachandran (MGR) from DMK. When Karunanidhi consolidated his power base and increasingly eliminated the old horses of the party Mr Muthu was disillusioned with the party and later joined MGR's the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam just less than two years into the existence of ADMK in 1976. He was a powerful leader in the southern districts and helped MGR in his election campaign with his depth of knowledge of the electorate across the length and breadth of Tamil Nadu and helped ADMK storm into power in 1977. He served as the popular Mayor of Madurai from 1971 to 1981. He also served as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council.
The fifteenth legislative assembly election was held on 13 April 2011 to elect members from 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Results were released on 13 May 2011. Two major parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) faced the election as coalitions of multiple parties with the DMK front consisting of 8 parties and the AIADMK of 11 parties. AIADMK front won the election,winning in 203 constituencies,with the AIADMK party itself winning 150 seats thus securing a simple majority to be able to form the government without the support of its coalition partners.
