Northampton is a market town and civil parish in Northamptonshire, England. It is the county town of Northamptonshire and the administrative centre of the unitary authority of West Northamptonshire. The town is situated on the River Nene, 60 miles (97 km) north-west of London and 50 miles (80 km) south-east of Birmingham. Northampton is one of the largest towns in England; the population of its urban area was recorded as 245,899 in the 2021 census.

Cam FM is a student-run radio station at the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. The station broadcasts online and an FM frequency of 97.2 MHz. The station opened studios at Anglia Ruskin University and Fitzwilliam College, and started broadcasting in 2012 from these locations after having spent its first 32 years located in Churchill College. Cam FM once held the world record for the longest team broadcast marathon, at 76 hours, and following the significant technical overhaul as a result of the two new studios in 2012, provided the first ever broadcast media coverage of the Oxford vs Cambridge Women's Boat Race from Dorney Lake, as well as live outside broadcasts from Newmarket Races and the Varsity Ski Trip.
The National Lift Tower is a lift-testing tower built by the Express Lift Company off Weedon Road in Northampton, England. The structure was commissioned in 1978 with construction commencing in 1980, and was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 12 November 1982. It has been a Grade II Listed Building since 1997.

In its early days, the pilot scheme was known as access radio. New legislation paved the way for this additional tier of radio, starting in 2005, and hundreds of community stations have since been set up. Unlike commercial radio licensing, which is generally advertised to cover a specific region, community radio stations are usually limited to broadcast areas smaller than commercial or BBC local stations, nominally within a 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) radius of their transmitter.

The parent company was awarded a Community Radio broadcast license by Ofcom in 2014 and launched at 10:35 am on Saturday 30 July 2016 (the time 10:35 was chosen to reflect the station's FM frequency. Following an online social media poll the first track played was 'The Boys Are Back in Town' by Thin Lizzy.
