The NYCity News Service is a multi-media, Web-based wire service run by the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. Stories and other content are reported, written and prepared by students, under the supervision of faculty members and a News Service Director. The service focuses on neighborhood stories and has fed content to local publications such as the New York Daily News and the Park Slope Courier .
CUNY announced the appointment of Jere Hester, the former City Editor of the Daily News, as News Service Director on November 13, 2006. Hester's move to academia was described as a "huge blow" to the Daily News in the pages of its rival newspaper, the New York Post . The first post was made to NYCity News Service's website on January 12, 2007 , although it had been feeding stories to the Daily News since December 11, 2006.
NYCity News Service does not charge for its content, which is made available to news organizations on a first-come, first-served basis. However, attribution credit is required to acknowledge the students' work.

The City University of New York is the public university system of New York City. It is the largest urban university system in the United States, comprising 25 campuses: eleven senior colleges, seven community colleges, one undergraduate honors college, and seven post-graduate institutions. While its constituent colleges date back as far as 1847, the City University was established in 1961. The university enrolls more than 275,000 students, and counts thirteen Nobel Prize winners and twenty-four MacArthur Fellows among its alumni.
Brian Lehrer is an American radio talk show host on New York City's public radio station WNYC. His daily two-hour 2007 Peabody Award-winning program, The Brian Lehrer Show, features interviews with newsmakers and experts about current events and social issues. Lehrer was formerly an anchor and reporter for NBC Radio Networks and has been in broadcast journalism for over 30 years.
The Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York is a public research institution and post-graduate university in New York City. It is the principal doctoral-granting institution of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. The school is situated in the landmark B. Altman and Company Building at 365 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, opposite the Empire State Building. The Graduate Center has 4,600 students, 31 doctoral programs, 14 master's programs, and 30 research centers and institutes. A core faculty of approximately 140 is supplemented by over 1,800 additional faculty members drawn from throughout CUNY's eleven senior colleges and New York City's cultural and scientific institutions.
Lehman College is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) in the Bronx borough of New York City. Founded in 1931 as the Bronx campus of Hunter College, the school became an independent college within CUNY in September 1967. The college is named after Herbert H. Lehman, a former New York governor, United States senator, philanthropist, and the son of Lehman Brothers co-founder Mayer Lehman. It is a public, comprehensive, coeducational liberal arts college with more than 90 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and specializations. 53% of undergraduate students graduate within six years.
The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a public community college in New York City. It is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Founded in 1963, BMCC originally offered business-oriented and Liberal Arts degrees for those intending to enter the business world or transfer to a four-year college. Its original campus was scattered all over midtown Manhattan, utilizing office spaces, hotel conference rooms, and various spaces throughout Manhattan. In the mid-1970s CUNY began scouting for suitable property on which to erect a new campus of its own. The current campus has been in use since 1983. Currently, with an enrollment of over 27,000 students, BMCC grants associate degrees in a wide variety of vocational, business, health, science, engineering and continuing education fields.

Benno Charles Schmidt Jr. is the Chairman of Avenues: The World School, a for-profit, private K-12 school, and served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York (CUNY) until 2016. From 1986 to 1992, he was 20th President of Yale University. Prior, Schmidt was Dean of the Columbia Law School, Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law, and chairman of Edison Schools. A noted scholar of the First Amendment, the history of the United States Supreme Court and the history of race relations in American law, Schmidt clerked for Earl Warren, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. In 1998, Schmidt was appointed Chair of a task force established by New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to evaluate systemic issues at City University of New York by executive order. After longterm service to CUNY's board of trustees, Governor Andrew Cuomo replaced Schmidt in June 2016, then-Chair, with a new Chair Bill Thompson, after an interim report issued, in an ongoing state investigation, issued by the Office of the New York State Inspector General identified a number of systemic problems, largely attributable to CUNY's lack of oversight which led to financial waste and abuse within the CUNY system.
Juan González is an American progressive broadcast journalist and investigative reporter. He was also a columnist for the New York Daily News from 1987 to 2016. He frequently co-hosts the radio and television program Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman.
Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. is an American journalist. Sulzberger became the publisher of The New York Times in 1992, and chairman of The New York Times Company in 1997, succeeding his father, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger. On December 14, 2017, he announced he would be ceding the post of publisher to his son, A. G. Sulzberger, effective January 1, 2018.
The State News is the student newspaper of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. It is supported by a combination of advertising revenue and a $7.50 refundable tax that students pay at each semester's matriculation. Though The State News is supported by a student tax, the faculty and administration do not interfere in the paper's content. The State News is governed by a Board of Directors, which comprises journalism professionals, faculty and students. In 2010, the Princeton Review ranked The State News as the #8 best college newspaper in the country. And in 2015, the Society of Professional Journalists named TSN as the nation's best daily college newspaper for 2014.
The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York is a public graduate journalism school located in New York City. One of the 24 institutions comprising the City University of New York, or CUNY, the school opened in 2006. It is the only public graduate school of journalism in the northeastern United States.

Founded in 1847, City College was the first free public institution of higher education in the United States. It is the oldest of CUNY's 24 institutions of higher learning, and is considered its flagship college.
CUNY TV is a non-commercial educational television station in New York City, part of City University of New York's university system. It provides tele-course programming varying in subjects from mathematics, physics, and biology to history, art, and social studies. It also provides cultural programming with shows in German, Spanish, and French. The station airs Amy Goodman's Democracy Now! twice a day, as well as daily world news in English from Deutsche Welle. It was first established in 1985 and in 2009 became a full-capacity HD studio and post-production facility, with a six-camera mobile production truck.
College of Staten Island High School For International Studies (CSIHSIS) is a New York City public high school that incorporates an internationally themed curriculum as well as preparing students for the 21st Century. CSIHSIS originally opened as a Region 7 public high school in 2005 on the College of Staten Island campus and moved to a new building in September 2009 located in New Springville, Staten Island. It was founded through a partnership with The College of Staten Island and Asia Society, with financial support by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
William E. Macaulay Honors College, commonly referred to as Macaulay Honors College or simply Macaulay, is a selective, co-degree-granting honors college for students at the City University of New York (CUNY) system in New York City. The college is known primarily for offering full-tuition scholarships to all of its undergraduates. For the class of 2020, there were 6,272 applicants and the number of enrolled students was 537. The average high school GPA and SAT for the class of 2020 was 94.1 and 1414, respectively. Since 2016, the college has consistently received the highest rating for a public university honors college. Macaulay students have earned more than 250 prestigious awards including 37 Fulbright Fellowships, 5 Truman Scholarships and 28 National Science Foundation grants.

Prior to taking that position in February 2015, she was an American freelance journalist for National Geographic, Smithsonian, the Washington Post and other outlets. In 2013, as senior executive producer for digital, she helped launch the website of Al Jazeera America. Before that she was senior national correspondent for The Huffington Post, which she left in November 2012. Previously, she was senior Washington correspondent for AOL News. Stone was a long-time correspondent for USA Today where she covered national and foreign news, politics, Congress and the Pentagon.

Sarah Bartlett is an American journalist and academic. She is currently the dean of The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York. Bartlett is a charter faculty member of the journalism school, which was founded in 2006 as the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. As dean, Bartlett oversaw the launch of the first bilingual Spanish language graduate journalism program in the US and the school's first social journalism MA program. In 2018, Bartlett and the CUNY Board of Trustees named the school after craigslist founder Craig Newmark, in recognition of his $20 million gift to the endowment.
