Naardermeer is a freshwater lake and nature reserve near Naarden in North Holland, Netherlands. [1] [2] It is managed by Natuurmonumenten and was the first area acquired by the Dutch Society for Nature Conservation in 1905. [3] [4] [5] The area was designated a Natura 2000 site in 2013 and received the European Diploma for Protected Areas in 2005. [6] [7]
Covering about 1,150 to 1,180 hectares, [8] Naardermeer consists of open water, reed beds, swamp forests, and wet meadows. It supports bird species such as the purple heron, black tern, great cormorant, and several types of warblers. [9] A marked 17-kilometre walking route surrounds the lake.
