Nadeem Akhter Tarin is an educationist, philanthropist and businessman in Saudi Arabia. [1]

Early life and education

Nadeem Tarin was born in Sambhal (Sarai Tarin), Uttar Pradesh, India. He spent his childhood in his hometown and primarily studied in an Urdu medium school. He then completed his secondary education in the English medium and continued on to study at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). In 1979 he completed his graduation (B.Sc. Engineering - Civil) from Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology of AMU.

In the year 2015, Nadeem Tarin was conferred an honorary doctorate degree on him by Aligarh Muslim University [2]

Professional career

After earning his bachelor's degree in engineering, he worked as a project engineer at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi in the year 1980. Thereafter, he moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a site engineer at the "Saudi Al Terais Trading, Industrial & Contracting Company". He has lived there ever since and has progressed to become prominent businessman and educationist in KSA.

Philanthropy and Contributions to Education

Nadeem Tarin has given educational activities the prime position in his life. His most noteworthy contribution is a 150-room hostel which accommodates 401 students for the Aligarh Muslim University. [4]

Apart from this, he established the Mission International Academy, Sambhal as well as the Ayesha Tarin Modern Public School in Aligarh in the year 1994. Thereafter, he concentrated more on Saudi Arabia, consequently becoming the chairman of the managing committee of the International Indian School, Riyadh. In 2004, he started the Daratassalam International Delhi Public School [5] in Riyadh, under the aegis of the Delhi Public School Society, New Delhi. He further enhanced his contribution by establishing the Dunes International School, Al Khobar [6] in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia in early 2011.

In terms of higher education, he, along with the efforts of others has been successful in initiating and implementing a plan to establish 5 centres of the Aligarh Muslim University around India with the cooperation of the Indian Government. [7] Moreover, he has significantly contributed towards the establishment of the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur as well as a Technical Institute (ITI) in Sambhal, UP.

As a member of many trusts and NGOs, Nadeem strives to carry forward and implement the ideas of the much-respected founder of the Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who envisioned for people from all walks of life to be properly and morally educated. As such, he initiated the Nadeem Tarin Scholarship wherein a few bright students are selected from India and are given the opportunity to go to the US for Higher Education.

In October 2015, Nadeem Tarin and the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, jointly laid the foundation stone of a new hall of residence for one thousand boys, Riyadh Hall, in Aligarh. The project is funded by the members of the AMU Alumni Association, Riyadh, KSA. [8]

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin School, better known by its initials STS School, and by its former name Minto Circle, is a K–12 semi-residential high school under Aligarh Muslim University at Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental Collegiate School in 1875, it later evolved as Aligarh Muslim University and is one of the five senior secondary schools run by the university.

He was the member of Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. He was also the Chancellor of Al Jamia Al Islamia, Shantapuram, Kerala. His book Sufism and Shariah is a synthesis of Sufi and Shariah thought, especially a Tatbiq of Shaikh Ahmed Sir Hindi and Shah Waliullah's thought. It grew out of his in-depth engagement with kalam, tasawwuf and fiqh in Islamic history. His other major contributions are a book on Mishkawah's philosophy and an English translation of Ibn Taymiyyah's fatwas with an introduction. He also wrote 'Learning the Language of Quran' it is one of the best English guides for the beginners learning to read the Qur'an. The Aligarh Movement was the push to establish a modern system of Western-style scientific education for the Muslim population of British India, during the later decades of the 19th century. The founder of the oriental college, and the other educational institutions that developed from it, was Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. He became the leading light of the wider Aligarh Movement.

Siddons Union Club, commonly referred to as 'The Siddons Union', was established in the year 1884 at Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, the present day Aligarh Muslim University. The club was named after Henry George Impey Siddons, the first principal of the college. the Siddons Debating Union Hall, the debating chamber, was constructed which consist of a debating hall, a library and a reading room. The Cambridge Union Society gave birth to debating societies of the prominent universities of the world namely Oxford Union, Yale Political Union. Siddons Union Club hosted a number of National and International Politicians, Writers, Nobel Laureates, Players, and Journalists, including the Dalai Lama, Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Jawahar Lal Nehru.

The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union (AMUSU) is the official Students' Union of the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union is the university-wide representative body for students and is autonomous in nature. It works according to their own Constitution written by Amin A. Bulbuliya. It is primarily responsible for building and preserving a healthy political culture and an atmosphere of open debates on the campus. Mohammad Mohibul Haque, or Muhibul Haque is a scholar and professor of international politics, Indian polity, minority rights and human rights at the Department of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University. He was awarded President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal for Excellence during his studies. He speaks English, Hindi, and Urdu languages. Haque is also a writer and author of articles, research papers, chapters in the edited books on socio-political issues. He has also authored a book. He has done research on the topic of The Rights of Minorities in India: The Role of the National Commission for Minorities.

Tariq Mansoor is an Indian academic and professor, who served as the vice-chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University in India from 17 May 2017 to 02 April 2023.He is presently a nominated member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council by the Bharatiya Janata Party on 3 April 2023. He was also a member of Padma award committee 2023.

Khwaja Mohammed Shahid is an Indian career civil servant, academic and administrator who formerly served as Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University and Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia University. He was also an eminent visitor to the University Grants Commission.
