Kohima is the capital of the North East Indian state of Nagaland. With a resident population of almost 100,000, it is the second largest city in the state. Kohima constitutes both a district and a municipality. The municipality covers 20 km2 (7.7 sq mi). The city lies on the foothills of Japfü section of the Barail Range located south of the District and has an average elevation of 1,261 m (4,137 ft).

Temsüla Ao was an Indian poet, fiction writer, and ethnographer. She was a professor of English at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) from where she retired in 2010. She served as the director of the North East Zone Cultural Centre between 1992 and 1997 on deputation from NEHU. She was awarded the Padma Shri award for her contribution to literature and education. Her book Laburnum For My Head received the Sahitya Akademi Award for English writing in the short story category. Her works have been translated into Assamese, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, and Kannada.
Tetseo Sisters are a quartet of sisters from the Northeast Indian state of Nagaland. They are devoted to the art and tradition of the vocal folk music of the state and have been performing on stage since they were children.
Mülhüpra Vero (1934–2020) was an Indian politician and the first member of parliament from among the Naga people. He was the recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 2006 for his contribution to the social work.

Methaneilie Solo, better known by his stage name Methaneilie Jütakhrie Solo, is an Indian singer and composer from Nagaland who became successful as a musician in the 1980s and 1990s.
Miss Nagaland is a state beauty pageant held annually since 1989 in the Northeastern Indian state of Nagaland. The Nagaland Wrestling Association is a non-governmental sports organisation based in Kohima, Nagaland, India. Founded in 1971, it is the apex body responsible for organising the Naga Wrestling Championship, the biggest sport event in Nagaland and the Naga Open Wrestling Championship.
The 2nd Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games was a multi-sport event held from 22 to 27 August 2022 in Kohima. The participating delegations included 16 delegations from all districts under Nagaland. A total of 3,500 athletes from the 16 Districts of Nagaland competed in 11 sports and disciplines.
Salhoutuonuo Kruse is an Indian politician from Nagaland. In 2023, along with Hekani Jakhalu Kense, Kruse became the first woman to be elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. She was appointed the Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture in the 5th Rio ministry, making her also the first female cabinet minister in Nagaland. She previously served as a president of the Angami Women Organization.
