Nahal International Short Film Festival is a student festival dedicated to short films, [1] which is held annually by students of Tehran University of Art. This festival hosts student short films from Iran and all over the world. [2] [3]
This festival was founded in 2003 with the aim of creating a suitable and independent space for the presentation of experimental works and to pay attention to the various concerns and tastes of students. [4] [5] [6] Since 2013, a ceremony has been held to commemorate one of the veterans of Iranian professional cinema, and since then Reza Nabavi, Kamran Shirdel, Ali Hatami, Sohrab Shahidsaless, Ali Loghmani, Bahram Dehghani, Kianush Ayari and Mohammad Reza Aslani have been honored and praised. In addition to this, the presence of some of the important figures of Iranian cinema such as Shahram Mokri , Shahab Hosseini, Hooman Seyyedi, Morteza Farshbaf, Roya Nonahali and Bahram Ark as jury and Workshop presenter added to the credibility of this festival. The film event is organized by students of Theater and Cinema faculty, University of Tehran [7] in collaboration with cultural deputy office of the university in 2 sections of Short Film as well as Scenic Photography and Poster with the former encompassing categories of Documentary, Fiction, [8] Experimental Cinema, [9] Animation [10] and First Film Directors. The duration of short films is confined to 30 minutes. Only students must be directors. [14] [3]
Faramarz Vakili, is an Iranian director, writer and producer. He was born in 1987 and started his filmmaking career in 2004 first with a few successful documentaries such as Cats and Men, Pardon me, Pahlevan Alimirza and The Melody of Life. Then he came toward docudrama and made a short docudrama in 2010 titled No Entrance.
Pantea Panahiha is an Iranian actress and. She is best known for her performance in Breath (2016), which was selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but was not nominated.
Setareh Pesyani is an Iranian actress. She has won an Honorary Diploma at the 39th Fajr Film Festival and an Urban International Film Festival Award for her performance in the war drama Yadoo (2021).
Mohammad Kart is an Iranian film director, screenwriter and actor. In 2020, he won the Crystal Simorgh for Audience Choice of Best Film for making the film Drown at the 38th Fajr Film Festival.
Vahid Rahbani is an Iranian actor, translator, director and playwright. He is best known for his role as Mohammad in Gando (2019–2021). He earned two Crystal Simorgh nominations for his performances in Expediency (2021), and A Relic of the South (2023).
