Nalini Chandran was born in Cherpulassery, Palakkad, Kerala. [4] She studied at the Cathedral & John Connon Girls' School, and Elphinstone College, Mumbai. She is a qualified dancer, choreographer, dramatist, and a writer of stories for children. She married Lt. Col. Chandran, [5] and has three daughters, Deepti Menon, Neema Varma and Bhavna Nair. She lives in Thrissur, Kerala.
While accompanying her husband as an army wife, Nalini worked in several schools and took active part in Army Welfare centres across India. Over several years, Nalini taught at different schools, handling subjects of English and History. In 1983, her husband took premature retirement from the Indian Army, and on his persuasion, she founded the Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School, affiliated to the ICSE-ISC board. [1] The next year, her husband passed away after a massive cardiac arrest.
Nalini served as the Principal of the Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School twice, from 1983 to 1995 and again from 1999 to 2000. Currently, Nalini continues in her capacity as the Director of Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School, and oversees the school’s functioning. She is the honorary director of Sandeepani Vidya Nikethan, Thrissur, and the President of 'Thalam', a cultural trust in Kerala. [1]
Nalini is the recipient of The Rangojwala Award in 2005, [6] the Guruvar Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009, [7] the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award 2013 for excellence in Choreography, [8] the Charter of Honour (by the Indian Medical Association, Thrissur) [1] and The Manorama-Air India BOLT Award. [1] Nalini is the first Keralite to win the Derozio Award. [9] The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations has instituted the award for exemplary service to school education and human enrichment. [1] [6]

Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School (HSVNS) is a private co-educational school in Thrissur, Kerala, India. It offers classes from kindergarten to junior college. The kindergarten school is conducted at the Hari Sri Nursery School near the main campus. Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School was founded in 1978 by Nalini Chandran who was also the school's first principal. Mundanat Leelavathy is a Malayalam writer, literary critic and educationist. She taught at various colleges in Kerala before retiring as Principal from Government Brennen College, Thalassery. During her long literary career, she won several awards including Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. She is a contemporary of such noted critics in Malayalam including K. M. George, S. Guptan Nair, N. Krishna Pillai, P. K. Balakrishnan, M. K. Sanu and Sukumar Azhikode. Leelavathy is a recipient of the Padma Shri Award.

Thomas Joseph was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. He received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2013 for his work, Marichavar Cinema KaanukayaaNu. He was also a recipient of SBT Literary Award, Delhi Short Story Award, K. A. Kodungallore Award, V. P. Sivakumar memorial Keli Award and the Children's literary institute Award. He died on 29 July 2021, at the age of 67.
Parassala B. Ponnammal was an Indian Carnatic musician from the south Indian state of Kerala. She was a classical carnatic vocalist in the lineage of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Muthiah Bhagavathar, and Papanasam Sivan. She was the first woman to perform at the Navaratri Mandapam in Thiruvananthapuram as a part of the Navaratri Celebrations of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala.
P. S. Vidyadharan is a music composer and playback singer who works in Malayalam cinema. In 2013, he completed 60 years of his musical career.
R. Narayana Panickar was an Indian essayist, playwright, translator, lexicographer, novelist and historian of Malayalam. He was credited with over 100 books but the best known among them are the seven-volume work, Kerala Bhasha Sahitya Charitram, a comprehensive history of Malayalam literature up to 1951 and Navayuga Bhasha Nighantu, a lexicon. He also wrote a number of novels and translated several works including Purananuru, Akanaṉūṟu and Silappatikaram. He was also a historian and published works such as Thiruvithamkoor Charitram and Kerala Charitram. Sahitya Akademi honoured him with their annual award in 1955.
Chakkalakal Lonappan Jose, is an Indian playwright of Malayalam literature. One of the pioneers of popular Malayalam theatre and a former chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Jose is the author of 36 plays, 75 one-act plays, one children's play and Ormakalkku Urakkamilla, his autobiography. He is a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Drama, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Fellowship and S. L. Puram Sadanandan Puraskaram of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.
V. K. Hymavathy popularly known as Kalamandalam Hymavathy is a Mohiniyattam dancer and dance teacher from Kerala, India. She received several awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Gurupooja Award and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award.
Sangeetha Sreenivasan is a novelist, children's writer, translator, Guitarist and teacher from Kerala, India. She writes in Malayalam and English and also translates into both languages. In 2020, she received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation for Upekshikkappetta Dinangal, the Malayalam translation of the novel The Days of Abandonment by Italian author Elena Ferrante. She is the daughter of writer activist Sarah Joseph.
Kalamandalam Saraswathi is an Indian classical dancer from Kerala. She has mastered dance forms like Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam and Kuchupudi. Saraswathi is a recipient of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in 1983 for Bharatanatyam. She is the wife of renowned Malayalam writer M. T. Vasudevan Nair.
