Nancy Garland (born January 25,1954) is an American clinical assistant,and a former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives,representing the 20th District from 2009-2012.
After being raised in Washington Court House,Ohio,Garland attended Ohio University before attending George Mason for law. She has been an aide for Congressman Jack Hightower,and spent decades of lobbying in Columbus and Washington,D.C.,where she worked for the American Optometric Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. Garland most recently served as executive director of the Ohio Physical Therapy Association. [1]
Democrat Bev Campbell had been chosen to try to take the 20th District from incumbent Republican Jim McGregor in 2008,but Representative Ted Celeste encouraged Garland to enter the race. A primary race resulted between Garland and Campbell. Garland won the race by about 2,750 votes. [2]
The general election against McGregor proved to be one of the closest watched House races of the cycle,with Republicans hitting Garland's lobbying history negatively. [3] In the end,Garland defeated McGregor by more than 2,000 votes. [4]
In 2010,Garland was again targeted by Republicans,and she faced attorney Matt Carle in the general election. [5] The campaign again proved to be negative. In an overwhelmingly Republican year,Garland still beat Carle by 2,000 votes. [6] In her second term,Garland served as a member of the Criminal Justice Committee;the Finance and Appropriations Committee,as ranking member of the Higher Education Subcommittee;the Financial Institutions,Housing,and Urban Development Committee;the Economic and Small Business Development Committee;and on the Health and Aging Committee. She also was a member of the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee,the Hospital Measures Advisory Council,and the Joint Legislative Committee on Medicaid Technology and Reform,and was the Chairman of the Ohio Women's Democratic Caucus. A reintroduction from the 128th Ohio General Assembly,Garland supports legislation that bans texting while driving,and voted legislation to do this out of committee. [8] The bill passed the full Ohio House. [9]
Garland has been a vocal advocate about finding measures to prevent prescription drug abuse. "It is imperative that we enact this law to save Ohioans from the scourge of prescription-drug abuse," she has said. [10]
Theodore S. Celeste is an American businessman and former politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. After serving in the Peace Corps,Celeste,the brother of former Ohio governor and U.S. ambassador Dick Celeste,ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000 and lost to the Republican incumbent Mike DeWine. In 2006,Celeste was elected State Representative of Ohio's 24th District,and served until 2012.

Jennifer Lee Brunner is an American attorney,politician and judge. She is currently an associate justice of the Ohio Supreme Court,a position to which she was elected after serving as a judge on Ohio's Tenth District Court of Appeals. On June 8,2021,Brunner announced her candidacy for Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court in the November 8,2022,general election. Brunner is a member of the Democratic Party who served as the Ohio Secretary of State;Brunner was the first woman to serve in this capacity. She took office after sixteen years of Republican control,which included two four-year terms by her predecessor J. Kenneth Blackwell,who oversaw the 2000 and 2004 state elections. Brunner served only a single term as Secretary of State. When it came time for re-election in 2010,she instead made an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate. Prior to being elected Secretary of State,Brunner worked in the Ohio Secretary of State's Office and served as a County Judge in Franklin County,Ohio. She also owned her own private practice;during her private practice career,she focused on election law and campaign finance law. She represented a broad range of candidates,businesses,political parties and committees before the Ohio Elections Commission on quasi-criminal matters.
Kirk Schuring is an American politician serving as a member of the Ohio Senate. He served as interim Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives,following the resignation of Speaker Cliff Rosenberger. Rosenberger resigned amid revelations he was under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was previously a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1993 to 2002,and from 2011 to 2018. Schuring also previously served in the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. He was the Republican nominee for Ohio's 16th congressional district in the 2008 election. In 2018,Schuring was re-elected to the Ohio Senate,where represents the 29th district.
