Alluri Seetarama Raju was an Indian revolutionary involved in the Indian independence movement. After the passing of the 1882 Madras Forest Act, its restrictions on the free movement of tribal people in the forest prevented them from engaging in their traditional podu agricultural system, which involved shifting cultivation. Alluri led the Rampa Rebellion of 1922, during which a band of tribal people and other sympathisers fought in the border areas of the East Godavari and Visakhapatnam regions of Madras Presidency, in present-day Andhra Pradesh, against the British Raj, which had passed the law. He was referred to as "Manyam Veerudu" by the local people.

Potti Sreeramulu, was an Indian revolutionary. Sreeramulu is revered as Amarajeevi in the Andhra region for his self-sacrifice for the Andhra cause. He became famous for undertaking a hunger strike for 56 days in support of the formation of an Indian state for the Telugu-speaking population of Madras Presidency; he died in the process. His death sparked public rioting and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru declared the intent by the newly liberated nation to form Andhra State three days following the death of Sreeramulu. He contributed his life for the formation of a separate Telugu-speaking state from the dominant Tamil-speaking state of Madras presidency. His struggles led to the formation of separate Telugu-speaking state called "Andhra Pradesh".
Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu was an Indian politician and freedom fighter, chief minister of the Madras Presidency, and subsequently became the first chief minister of the new Andhra state, created by the partition of Madras State along linguistic lines. Kasinadhuni Nageswararao, better known as Nageswara Rao Pantulu, was an Indian journalist, nationalist, politician, and a staunch supporter of Khaddar movement. He participated in the Indian independence movement and in the Indian National Congress party, including Mahatma Gandhi’s civil disobedience movement through salt satyagraha. He was conferred with the title Desabandhu by the people of Andhra Pradesh. He was conferred with the title Desoddhaaraka by the Andhra Mahasabha. In 1935, the Andhra University honoured him with Kalaprapoorna, an honorary doctorate of Literature.
Grandhi Venkata Reddy Naidu (1885-1967) was an Indian politician and the first Minister of Law for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. When Andhra Pradesh became a newly formed state, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was its first Chief Minister. Grandhi Venkata Reddy Naidu served in his cabinet.
Those with the last name Nanduri are said to hail from the village of Nanduru which is located near Bapatla and Ponnur. There is a village called Nanduru in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh as well which leads to some ambiguity. Those with this last name could be Niyogi Brahmins or Sri Vaishnava Brahmins or they could also be from a caste other than the Brahmin caste. One of the other known caste is Bhatraju. For the most part, those with this last name are predominantly Brahmins. Many have migrated from Nanduru and they have settled in various part of Andhra Pradesh. Some are known to have settled in a village known as Lingala, which in located in the Khammam District of Andhra Pradesh. Lingala is said to have been ruled by kings with the last name Nanduri hundreds of years ago.

Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao was an Indian freedom fighter and the first Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh. He was born in Nandigama village, Krishna district, then in Madras Presidency, British India and now a part of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Kaleswara Rao market in Vijayawada was named in his honour.

Paturi was associated with the national independence movement and an ardent follower of Gandhiji. His contributions are noteworthy - in spreading library movement in the state of Andhra Pradesh among the public, strengthening Andhra Pradesh Library Association propagating adult literacy, the establishment of library school for imparting training to library workers and giving library education under State government certification and publishing books, periodicals, LIS textbooks.
