Naomi Korir (born 1 September 1998) is Kenyan track and field athlete who competes as a middle-distance runner. [1]

Career

In 2021, alongside Ferguson Rotich, Korir took second place in the Mixed 2x2x400m relay at the World Athletics Relays Championships in Silesia, Poland. [2]

She competed for Kenya at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Women's 800 metres in Belgrade. [3]

She competed for Kenya at the 2023 World Athletics Championships – Women's 800 metres in Budapest. [4] [5]

She competed for Kenya at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Women's 800 metres. [6]

She took a second gold as part of the women's 4 × 400 m relay. She was the 800 m 2022 World champion, becoming the first American woman to win the world championship title over the distance.

The men's 800 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place from 31 July to 4 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. In total 48 athletes were to start, but only 47 actually did. Emmanuel Korir of Kenya won the event by 0.17 seconds, with his countryman Ferguson Rotich taking silver. It was the fourth consecutive victory in the men's 800 metres for Kenya. Patryk Dobek earned bronze, giving Poland its first medal in the event.
