Naresh Kumar is an officer in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of India. On 14 August 2020 he was awarded his seventh police medal for gallantry, the most ever received by a single officer in the force's history. [1] [2]
Naresh was born to an Army officer in Hoshiyarpur in Punjab. He did his initial schooling from Army Schools and Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools. He completed his B.Tech from Punjabi University, Patiala before clearing the reputed UPSC examination for the post of Assistant Commandant and joined the CRPF in March 2013. [3] [1]
After completing basic training from CRPF Academy, Gurugram, Naresh joined 79th battalion based in Kashmir. During his initial days of service he went for specialized training on Counter Insurgency and Anti Terrorism to combat critical situations in case of any terrorist attack.[ citation needed ]
On 20/02/2016, a CRPF convoy coming from Jammu was targeted by terrorists at Pampore near JKEDI building. After this operation CRPF realized the challenge of Urban Warfare and formulated a Quick Action Team (QAT) to respond to such attacks. A group of senior officers of CRPF, Atul Karwal (then IG Srinagar Sector), Kamal Kant Sharma (then DIG South Srinagar), Arvind Rai, DIG, Suman Kant Tigga, DIG handpicked men from different units to prepare a team. Naresh was selected as the commander and tasked to train the selected men and turn them to an extraordinary team by imparting special combat skills. After formation, the team was trained with NSG at Manesar for Building Intervention and firing in compressed environment.[ citation needed ]
The CRPF Valley QAT was put to its first test on 15/08/2016 when terrorists attacked a police picket at Nowhatta Chowk, Srinagar. The commandos of QAT neutralized the terrorists within minutes and proved their extraordinary fighting capabilities in Urban Warfare. Since then, CRPF Valley QAT has conducted many operations with Indian Army and J&K police. Naresh has successfully led CRPF Valley QAT in many operations.[ citation needed ]

COBRA is a special operation unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of India proficient in guerrilla tactics and jungle warfare. Originally established to counter the Naxalite movement, CoBRA is deployed to address insurgent groups engaging in asymmetrical warfare. Numbering ten battalions as of 2011, CoBRA is considered to be one of the most experienced and successful law enforcement units in the country.

Currently he has joined back as senior security adviser in Ministry of Home Affairs in December 2019.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police or JKP is the law enforcement agency of Jammu and Kashmir. JKP was established in 1873 and has primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within Jammu and Kashmir in India.
An attack on a Central Reserve Police Force camp at Bemina, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, occurred on 13 March 2013. It resulted in the death of five CRPF personnel and two attackers. Ten others were also injured include security personnels and civilians.
The 2017 Nowhatta mob lynching, was the lynch mob murder and mutilation of an on-duty undercover Indian Jammu and Kashmir Police officer Muhammad Ayub Pandith, on the Muslim holy night of Laylat al-Qadr on Thursday 22 June 2017 by a mob in Nowhatta after a crowd shouted slogans in favor of Pakistan as well as al-Qaida jihadist Zakir Musa. Sajjad Ahmad Gilkar, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant, had played a key role in the lynching according to the state police.
Indian Army operations in Jammu and Kashmir include security operations such as Operation Rakshak, which began in 1990, Operation Sarp Vinash in 2003 and Operation Randori Behak in 2020. Other operations include humanitarian missions such as Operation Megh Rahat and operations with a social aim such as Operation Goodwill and Operation Calm Down. The Indian Army works in tandem with the other arms of the Indian Armed Forces and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir such as during Mission Sahayata or joint operations.
All branches of the Indian Armed Forces have women in combat roles. Women are allowed in combat services and supervisory roles. The Indian Air Force had 13.09% (2018) and 8.50% (2014) women; the Indian Navy 6% (2018) and 3% (2014); the Indian Army 3.80% (2018) and 3% (2014). As of 2020, three officers have the rank of lieutenant-general or equivalent, all in the Medical Services. In May 2021, 83 women were inducted as Jawans for the first time in the Indian Army, in the Corps of Military Police.
Indian Armed Forces in Jammu and Kashmir encompass the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, tri-service units such as the Armed Forces Special Operations Division (AFSOD), and paramilitary organisations of the Central Armed Police Forces such as the Border Security Force, the Central Reserve Police Force, the Sashastra Seema Bal and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. Each three wings of India's military have their special forces deployed in the region including Indian Army's Para SF, the Indian Navy MARCOS and the Indian Air Force's Garud Commando Force. Apart from this, there is the elite police anti-insurgency force in the region, the Special Operations Group, of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, SM & two bars was an Indian Army officer. He was the commanding officer of the 21st battalion, Rashtriya Rifles. On 2 May 2020, he was killed in action in an encounter in Handwara in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. He was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry three times, the first bar to the Sena Medal being awarded a few months before his death and the second bar posthumously.
Edavelath Nalamveetil Rammohan was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1965 batch, who served in many of India’s police and paramilitary organisations. He retired as Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), a leading paramilitary force of India, tasked with guarding the country’s borders.

Major General Dalvir Singh AVSM, VrC, VSM is a retired Indian Special Forces officer, a former General Officer of the Indian Army and the recipient of Vir Chakra, India's third-highest War-time gallantry award. He has commanded the 10th Battalion Special Forces, the elite 52 Special Action Group of the NSG, Kilo Force of the Rashtriya Rifles and the Territorial Army (India), with distinction. After retirement from active military service, he has been serving as the Director Training of Rajasthan Police Training Center Jodhpur.
