Natalia Borisovna Perkins (also published as N. B. Pustyl'nik) is a Russian and American physicist whose research involves quantum phases of condensed matter, such as quantum spin liquids, both through observation and theoretical analysis. She is a professor of physics at the University of Minnesota.
Perkins is originally from Dubna, near Moscow, where both her parents worked as physicists. [1] After graduating from Moscow State University with a degree in physics in 1994, Perkins continued at the university for a 1997 doctorate. Her dissertation, Magnons, magnetic polaritons and magnetostatic waves, was supervised by Moisei Kaganov. [2] Her doctoral research concerned theoretical magnetic quasiparticles that would later be important in spintronics, but she soon shifted her interests, to frustrated magnetism and spin patterns. [1]
From 1997 to 2008 she was listed as a researcher for the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Meanwhile, she was also a postdoctoral researcher in Europe, from 2002 to 2004 at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati in Italy, from 2004 to 2006 at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Germany, and from 2006 to 2007 at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany. She began an assistant professorship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2007, and was promoted to associate professor in 2013. In 2014, she moved to her present position at the University of Minnesota, and in 2019 she was promoted to full professor. She visited the Technical University of Munich in 2022, under a Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship. [2]
Perkins was named as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) in 2016, after a nomination from the APS Division of Condensed Matter Physics, "for theoretical studies of the low-energy behavior of strongly correlated electron systems that exhibit an interplay of orbital and spin degrees of freedom". [2] [3] In 2017, the Perimeter Institute named her as an Emmy Noether Fellow. [2] [1]

Xiao-Gang Wen is a Chinese-American physicist. He is a Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Distinguished Visiting Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. His expertise is in condensed matter theory in strongly correlated electronic systems. In Oct. 2016, he was awarded the Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Prize.

From 1996, she was a distinguished professor of physics at the City College of New York. She is known for the first experimental confirmation of the Kondo effect in the 1960s.
Steven Mark Girvin is an American physicist who is Sterling Professor and former Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics at Yale University. He is noted for his theoretical work on quantum many body systems such as the fractional quantum Hall effect, and as co-developer of circuit quantum electrodynamics, the application of the ideas of quantum optics to superconducting microwave circuits. Circuit QED is now the leading architecture for construction of quantum computers based on superconducting qubits.

Ana Maria Rey is a Colombian theoretical physicist, professor at University of Colorado at Boulder, a JILA fellow, a fellow at National Institute of Standards and Technology and a fellow of the American Physical Society. Rey was the first Hispanic woman to win the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in 2019. In 2023, she was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. She is currently the chair of DAMOP, the American Physical Society's division in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (AMO).

Belita Koiller is a Brazilian Professor of Physics at the Instituto de Física, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil. She is a Condensed Matter Theorist, and has contributed to the understanding of the properties of disordered solids, particularly disordered chains and semiconductor alloys. More recently, she has been interested in quantum control of individual electron spin and charge in semiconductors, aiming at applications in quantum information and quantum computing.

Matthew P. A. Fisher is an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is known for several major contributions to condensed matter physics. He completed his bachelor's degree in engineering physics from Cornell University in 1981 and earned a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1986 with Anthony Leggett as his advisor, with part of his work done under the supervision of Eduardo Fradkin. He went on to become first a visiting scientist and then a research staff member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center (1986–1993). He joined the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics and the physics department of the University of California in 1993. In 2007 he joined Microsoft's Station Q as a research physicist, on leave from the UCSB physics department. During the academic year 2009–2010 he was on the faculty at Caltech, returning to the physics department at UCSB in summer 2010.

He is widely recognised for his pioneering contributions to the theory of low-dimensional systems, including applications of non-perturbative quantum field theory methods and the Bethe Ansatz.
