Nathaniel Tilton (born October 8, 1972) is an American former professional blackjack player, author of The Blackjack Life (Huntington Press, 2012), [1] and Certified Financial Planner.

Blackjack

Tilton was introduced to card counting by reading the books Bringing Down the House and Busting Vegas by Ben Mezrich, which later served as the inspiration for the movie 21. [2] In 2005, Tilton enrolled in a private instructional program offered by Semyon Dukach, the former MIT Blackjack team manager who was featured in Busting Vegas. There, Tilton also met fellow attendee, D.A., and the two developed into skilled blackjack professionals. Beginning in 2006, they received additional mentorship from Mike Aponte ("MIT Mike"), another member of the MIT Blackjack team, who was the basis for one of the main characters, Jason Fisher, in Bringing Down the House. Mike Aponte, winner of the World Series of Blackjack, further groomed the pair into world-class players. The meticulous training process included requiring them to pass the MIT Blackjack team's rigorous Big Player test (the "BP Checkout"). From 2007-2012, Tilton and D.A. went on to flourish independently as a two-person team, melding a variety of playing methodologies together into a multi-strategic approach to blackjack advantage play.

In The Blackjack Life, Tilton outlines the skills required to effectively count cards, the development of his multi-strategic methodology, sustainability tactics for small team advantage play, and a personal narrative of his journey as an expert blackjack player. [3]

Tilton has been featured in a variety of media outlets, including Gambling With an Edge, [4] The 207, [5] House of Cards Radio, [6] The POGG, [7] Seacoast Online, [8] Card Player Magazine, [9] Blackjack Insider, [10] Cigar Aficianado, [11] and The Daily News of Newburyport. [12] In 2022, Tilton was a contributor to the book, Tales from the Felt: An Anthology, published by Colin Jones (blackjack player), a coffee table book in which 21 professional card counters go on the record to share their first-person tales of their playing experiences. Career

Tilton began his career in sports business in 1994, where he worked with professional teams including the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 2001, Tilton left sports for a career in financial planning with American Express Financial Advisors. In 2006, he became an independent advisor. Tilton owns and operates Tilton Wealth Management. Personal life

Tilton grew up in Kennebunk, Maine and later attended the University of New Hampshire, where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in Sport Management. Tilton is a member of Mensa International. He current resides in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

<i>Bringing Down the House</i> (book)

Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions is a 2003 book by Ben Mezrich about a group of MIT card counters commonly known as the MIT Blackjack Team. Though the book is classified as non-fiction, the Boston Globe alleges that the book contains significant fictional elements, that many of the key events propelling the drama did not occur in real life, and that others were exaggerated greatly. The book was adapted into the movies 21 and The Last Casino.

John Ferguson, known by his pen name, Stanford Wong, is a gambling author best known for his book Professional Blackjack, first published in 1975. Wong's computer program "Blackjack Analyzer", initially created for personal use, was one of the first pieces of commercially available blackjack odds analyzing software. Wong has appeared on TV multiple times as a blackjack tournament contestant or as a gambling expert. He owns a publishing house, Pi Yee Press, which has published books by other gambling authors including King Yao.

Arnold Snyder is a professional gambler and gambling author. He was elected by professional blackjack players as one of the seven original inductees into the Blackjack Hall of Fame which is hosted at Barona Casino for his record as a blackjack player and his innovations in professional gambling techniques. He was the first blackjack authority to publish the importance of deck penetration in card counting, in his 1980 book The Blackjack Formula. He was also the first blackjack researcher to publish that radical simplification of blackjack card counting systems did not hurt earnings.

The World Series of Blackjack is a televised blackjack tournament created and produced by the cable network GSN. It is a closed tournament; players are either invited to play or attempt to win a spot via a satellite tournament. Rounds are edited into 1-hour episodes and broadcast on GSN. Matt Vasgersian and Max Rubin provided commentary for the first two seasons. Tiki Arsenault was the dealer for Season 1 as Deanna Bacon was the dealer for Seasons 2 and 3 while Jessica Knight was the dealer for Season 4.

The Ultimate Blackjack Tour was a televised series of Elimination Blackjack tournaments that aired in syndication. It debuted on September 16, 2006. The show consists of a series of televised Elimination Blackjack tournaments. The winner of each weekly tournament returns for the final Tournament of Champions.

Anthony Curtis is a blackjack player, gambler, author and publisher. He publishes the Las Vegas Advisor, a newsletter founded in 1983 that covers discounts in Las Vegas, and Huntington Press, a publishing house that has released books about gambling, as well as true crime, including The Killing of Tupac Shakur, a Los Angeles Times bestseller by author Cathy Scott.

David Irvine is an engineer and professional blackjack player and a former member of the MIT Blackjack Team. Irvine was a part of the blackjack team featured in the best selling book, Bringing Down the House, by Ben Mezrich. Irvine was one of the members of a team of MIT students that won millions at blackjack tables around the world by counting cards. The story of the MIT Blackjack Team was made into a major motion picture, 21, which was released in theaters on March 28, 2008. In 2004, Irvine co-founded a company called the Blackjack Institute with business partner Mike Aponte that provides instructional products and services on how to win at blackjack. Irvine has spoken at various events describing his experiences with the team, including the Global Gaming Expo Conference in 2007, the Chicago University Private Equity Network in 2006, among other events. Irvine is also the co-owner of an engineering consulting company called SBR Technologies, Inc., that focuses on the use of a wastewater treatment process called the sequencing batch reactor.

The Blackjack Hall of Fame honors the greatest blackjack experts, authors, and professional players in history. It was launched in 2002, and its physical premises are in San Diego, California.

Peter A. Griffin was a mathematician, author, and blackjack expert and is one of the original seven members of the Blackjack Hall of Fame. He authored The Theory of Blackjack, considered a classic analysis of the mathematics behind the game of casino 21.

Mike Aponte, also known as MIT Mike, is a professional blackjack player and a former member of the MIT Blackjack Team. Aponte was part of a team of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students that legally won millions playing blackjack at casinos around the world by counting cards. He is the basis for one of the main characters, Jason Fisher, in the book, Bringing Down the House, by Ben Mezrich, which inspired the motion picture, 21.

Advantage gambling, or advantage play, refers to legal methods used to gain an advantage while gambling, in contrast to cheating. The term usually refers to house-banked casino games, but can also refer to games played against other players, such as poker. Someone who practises advantage gambling is often referred to as an advantage player, or AP. Unlike cheating, which is by definition illegal, advantage play exploits innate characteristics of a particular game to give the player an advantage relative to the house or other players. While not illegal, advantage play is often discouraged and some advantage players may be banned by certain casinos.

Busting Vegas is a 2005 book by Ben Mezrich about a group of MIT card counters and blackjack players commonly known as the MIT Blackjack Team. The subtitle of the original, hardcover edition was The MIT Whiz Kid Who Brought the Casinos to Their Knees, but the subtitle of the subsequent paperback editions was A True Story of Monumental Excess, Sex, Love, Violence, and Beating the Odds.

Cathy "Cat" Hulbert was an American professional gambler. She was one of the world's first professional female card counters. Card Player magazine named her one of the top 7-card stud players in the world in 1996.
