The National Archives of Spain is a national system of Archives and State Centers maintained by the Archive (Archivo) department of the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
The National Archives of Spain consists of a number of different collections. The four main branches of the National Archives of Spain include the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, the National Historical Archives in Madrid and elsewhere, the General Administrative Archives in Alcala de Henares, and the General Archive of Simancas. The General Administrative Archives, Alcala de Henares, is a repository for the records of the ministries of the central administration, created in 1969 as a replacement for the Central Archive, which was destroyed in a fire in 1939. [1] The General Archive of Simancas, established in 1540, now serves as a historical archive. [1]

The "Portal de Archivos Españoles" (PARES), is the open access database for the digitized records of the various collections within the National Archives. [3] This project is run in conjunction by the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. [4]

The Archivo General de Indias, housed in the ancient merchants' exchange of Seville, Spain, the Casa Lonja de Mercaderes, is the repository of extremely valuable archival documents illustrating the history of the Spanish Empire in the Americas and Asia. The building itself, an unusually serene and Italianate example of Spanish Renaissance architecture, was designed by Juan de Herrera. This structure and its contents were registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site together with the adjoining Seville Cathedral and the Alcázar of Seville.

The Castle of Simancas is a fortified complex in Simancas, central Spain. The castle stands in the center of town and houses the current Archivo General de Simancas.
Portal de Archivos Españoles (PARES) is a documentary archive established and hosted by the Spanish Ministry of Education. It offers free access to digitized images of the Spanish Archives. It was opened in 2007. On 10 May 2016 it was updated to PARES 2.0, with more than 33.9 million digital images and 8.6 million document archives.
The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP) is the department of the Government of Spain responsible for proposing and carrying out the government policy on education and vocational training, including all the teachings of the education system except university education, without prejudice to the competences of the National Sports Council in matters of sports education. Likewise, it is also the responsibility of this Department the promotion of cooperation actions and, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the promotion of international relations in the field of non-university education.
The National Archives of Fiji is a Fijian government agency under the Ministry of Education, Heritage, and Arts. It is the successor of the Central Archives of Fiji and the Western Pacific High Commission, established in 1954. Its name changed to the National Archives of Fiji in 1971, shortly after Fiji's independence. The agency is responsible for archiving records of the Fijian government. The National Archives recently launched a website that makes records available online.
The Irish College of San Jorge at Alcalá de Henares, was founded about 1648, from the estate of Baron George Sylveira, a Portuguese nobleman, related to the McDonnells of Ulster through his mother. After the baron died, his widow Beatriz Silveira implemented his wishes and the College came into existence. Alcalá de Henares is a town to the northeast of Madrid, where the Complutense University was situated. The college and its chapel were dedicated to St. George, and were formally known as the Royal Irish College of St. George the Martyr, Alcala. Students would study for seven years, Theology and Arts with the college was affiliated to the Complutense University of Madrid, aimed at training clerics for Ireland, Belgium(Flanders) and The Netherlands. The Irish Franciscan Luke Wadding, O.F.M. wrote the statutes for the college.
