National Bullying Helpline

The National Bullying Helpline was a charity organisation established by David and Christine Pratt, promising to service the needs of victims of bullying, based in Swindon, Wiltshire. After closing in 2011, it reopened as a privately run, national, advice centre in 2012. [1]

Original charity

The National Bullying helpline was founded in 2007. [2] In 2009, they encouraged National Ban Bullying day on 7 November, and National Ban Bullying week starting on 16 November. [3]

In February 2010, National Bullying Helpline caused controversy by alleging that three or four members of Gordon Brown's colleagues had phoned them for advice. [4] This was seen as a breach of their confidentiality, [5] and caused the resignation of all four patrons of the organisation. [5] [6] [7]

Further controversy came when it was revealed that Christine Pratt herself had been involved in racist bullying of another staff member, and that the National Bullying Helpline itself was under investigation by the Charity Commission for submitting accounts late, taking advantage of its clients through exhorting money, and finding clients for David Pratt's HR company. [8] [9] Pratt later resigned as a result, [4] the organisation was temporarily suspended, [10] and the organisation was investigated by the Charity Commission. [11] Pratt subsequently told Swindon Link, a free news publication delivered to 25000 homes around Swindon, [12] that the investigation had exonerated her. [13]

In January 2011, it was announced that the organisation was to close down, due to a lack of funding. [10] [2]

In 2012, National Bullying Helpline reopened as a privately run, national, advice centre in 2012. [14]

Education Support is a UK charity "dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of the education workforce".

Keeping Kids Company , formerly Kids Company, was an incorporated and registered charity, founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh in 1996 to provide support to deprived inner city children. From its original "drop-in" centre in south London it expanded over the following two decades to be a prominent children's charity operating 11 centres, mostly within Greater London, but also in Bristol and Liverpool.

The ManKind Initiative is a domestic violence charity based in the United Kingdom and is at the forefront of providing support for male victims of domestic abuse and violence. Since becoming a charity in 2001, it has provided a helpline, training and support for statutory agencies and campaigns to ensure that equal recognition is given to male victims in the same way that recognition is given to female victims of domestic abuse. It is one of only a few charities in the country to help male victims.

Refuge (United Kingdom charity)

Refuge is a United Kingdom charity providing specialist support for women and children experiencing domestic violence. It was founded by author and men's rights activist Erin Pizzey. Refuge provides a national network of specialist services, including emergency refuge accommodation (refuges), community outreach, independent domestic violence advocacy (IDVAs), culturally specific services and a team of child support workers. CareConfidential is a charity which provides information and counselling independent of the NHS on pregnancy choices, and post-abortion support. They do this through their website, helpline and online chat. Information on their website and leaflets has been certified by the information Standard. They formerly supported a network of crisis pregnancy centers, but as of 2014, no longer do so. CareConfidential was founded as a programme of the pro-life organisation Christian Action Research and Education (CARE), and became an independent charity in 2011. Since becoming independent CareConfidential do not explicitly state whether they are pro-life or pro-choice but seek to acknowledge the freedom of choice, respecting all clients' decisions.

The Silver Line Free telephone helpline for older people in the United Kingdom

The Silver Line is a free confidential telephone helpline offering information, friendship and advice to older people in the United Kingdom, available 24 hours a day. As of 1 October 2019 The Silver Line joined forces with Age UK to help more of the older people who are struggling with loneliness and isolation. The Silver Line is a subsidiary of Age UK and still has its own brand, registered charity number, Board of Trustees and CEO.

It provides confidential counselling to perpetrators of domestic violence as a way to promote the safety of victims. It has been described as "the main UK organisation working with domestic violence perpetrators".

Mermaids (charity) British charity that supports transgender youth

Mermaids is a British charity and advocacy organisation that supports gender variant and transgender youth. They also provide inclusion and diversity training.
