The National Productivity Council (NPC) was established in 1958 [1] [2] as an autonomous organization under Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India), Government of India. There are 13 regional offices and one training institute. [3] 124 full time professional/consultants [4] work at headquarter in New Delhi. Shri Piyush Goyal [5] is current president, Shri Arun Kumar Jha is Director General [6] of National Productivity Council India. In addition to conducting productivity research, NPC has provided consulting and training services to the government, public and private sector organizations in areas such as Industrial Engineering, Agri-Business, Economic Services, Quality Management, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Technology Management, Energy Management, Environmental Management, and others. The National Productivity Council's headquarters has become the first government building in Delhi to have HT-solar panels installed to fulfil a portion of its electricity needs. [9]

History

On date 12 February 1958 National Productivity Council was Registered under Societies Registration Act XXI, 1860. Registered office of the Society was located at “Utpadakta Bhavan” 5–6, Institutional Area, Lodi Road, New Delhi-110 003, in the National Capital Region of Delhi. [10] NPC is a constituent of the Tokyo-based Asian Productivity Organization (APO), an Inter-Governmental Body, The Government of India is a founder member. [11] The National Productivity Council has been accredited by the Quality Council of India's National Accreditation Board for Certification Body to ISO 17020:2012. [12]

16 Mar 2021, PTC India Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Productivity Council (NPC). [13]

5 Oct 2020, memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between National Productivity Council and CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, India. [14]

20 July 2020, National Productivity Council under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has tied up with Dr. Sanjay Chugh, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist to do webinar for dealing with mental stress during the pandemics. [15]

18 June 2019, The North Eastern Council (NEC) and National Productivity Council (NPC) have agreed to work together in the areas of capacity building and project evaluation. [16]

3 Nov 2015, Danfoss Industries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Productivity Council. [17]

24 Nov 2014, National Productivity Council launches scheme to curb energy wastage. On Monday held a meeting regarding enhancement of competitiveness at industrial units in Ludhiana by decreasing energy wastage. [18]

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was established by NLC Decree 293 of October 10, 1968 amended by NLCD 329 of 1969, and re-established in its present form by CSIR Act 521 on November 26, 1996. The genesis of the council however, dates back to the erstwhile National Research Council (NRC), which was established by the government in August 1958 to organize and coordinate scientific research in Ghana. In 1963, the NRC merged with the former Ghana Academy of Sciences, a statutory learned society. Following a review in 1966, the academy was reconstituted into, essentially, its original component bodies, namely a national research organization redesignated the CSIR and a learned Society, designated the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Repercussion of bomb throwing incident in Lok Sabha Chamber, the then Central Legislative Assembly on 8 April 1929, the then president of Central Legislative Assembly, Shri Vithalbhai Patel, set up a 'WATCH AND WARD COMMITTEE' on 3 September 1929. Sir James Crerar, the chairman of the committee, recommended the establishment of 'Door – Keeper & Messengers'. Initially 21 men were nominated for access control in the complex. The Sergeant at Arms was designated as Controller and another 25 officials drawn from the Delhi Police, the then Metropolitan Police, for deployment in Gallery and a Watch & Ward Officer was appointed to administer the directions of the speaker under the guidance of the secretary general. The Watch & Ward has been renamed as Parliament Security Service since15 April 2009.

Swaminathan Sivaram is an Indian polymer chemist, inventor, institution builder and a former director of the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. He is known for his pioneering work on alkylation of tertiary alkyl halides with trialkylaluminum and olefin polymerization and holds the highest number of US patents by an Indian working outside the US. He is a fellow of several significant professional organizations. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian science.

The Centre for Studies in Science Policy (CSSP) at Jawaharlal Nehru University is one of India's oldest and top ranked university affiliated think tanks focusing on science and technology studies in India.
