National nature reserves in England are designated by Natural England as key places for wildlife and natural features in England. They were established to protect the most significant areas of habitat and of geological formations. NNRs are managed on behalf of the nation, many by Natural England themselves, but also by non-governmental organisations, including the members of The Wildlife Trusts partnership, the National Trust, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Some statutory nature reserves are designated by national bodies in the United Kingdom, and are known as national nature reserves.
Caerlaverock is a national nature reserve (NNR) covering parts of the mudflats and shoreline of the Solway Firth about 10 km south of Dumfries, in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It lies between the River Nith and the Lochar Water, and consists of a variety of wetland habitats including bare mud and sand, merse and marshes, and is fringed by neutral grassland on the landward side. A nature reserve was designated in 1957 at the instigation of the Duke of Norfolk. The NNR covers an area of 82 square kilometres (32 sq mi) and is an internationally important wintering site for waterfowl and wading birds.
Ashford Hill with Headley is a civil parish in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England. The parish includes Ashford Hill, Plastow Green, Headley and Kingsclere Woodlands. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 1,216, increasing to 1,277 at the 2011 Census.
Kingley Vale is a 204.4-hectare (505-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Chichester in West Sussex. It is also a Special Area of Conservation and a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I. An area of 147.9 hectares is a National Nature Reserve.
Old Winchester Hill is a 66.2-hectare (164-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hampshire. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I, and a National Nature Reserve. Part of it is a Scheduled Monument.

Barnack Hills & Holes is a 23.3 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Barnack in Cambridgeshire. It is also a national nature reserve. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I. In 2002 it was designated as a Special Area of Conservation, to protect the orchid rich grassland as part of the Natura 2000 network of sites throughout the European Union.
Aston Rowant National Nature Reserve is located on the north-west escarpment of the Chiltern Hills, in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has an area of 159.1 hectares, and most of it is a 128.5 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is listed as a Grade 1 site in A Nature Conservation Review. The reserve is in several sections, mostly in the parish of Lewknor in Oxfordshire, with smaller sections in the parish of Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire.
The Dorset Heaths form an important area of heathland within the Poole Basin in southern England. Much of the area is protected.

Ashford Hill Woods and Meadows is a 141.5-hectare (350-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest near Ashford Hill in Hampshire. An area of 23.45 hectares is Ashford Hill NNR, which is a National Nature Reserve.
Wealden Edge Hangers is a 222.4-hectare (550-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Petersfield in Hampshire. An area of 48 hectares is Wealden Edge Hangers Local Nature Reserve and an area of 144.1 hectares is Ashford Hangers National Nature Reserve. Wealden Edge Hangers is part of the East Hampshire Hangers Special Area of Conservation.
