The Nederlands Letterenfonds ("Dutch Foundation for Literature") is a Dutch organization that promotes Dutch literature at home and abroad. The Letterenfonds represents Dutch authors at such events as the Frankfurt Book Fair, and awards a number of prizes for writers and translators. [1] Its current president is Romkje de Bildt.
Among the prizes the Nederlands Letterenfonds awards are the Toneelschrijfprijs, the Europese Literatuurprijs and the Vondel Prize.
Cornelis Johannes Jacobus Maria "Cees" Nooteboom is a Dutch novelist, poet and journalist. After the attention received by his novel Rituals, which won the Pegasus Prize, it was the first of his novels to be translated into an English-language edition, published in 1983 by Louisiana State University Press of the United States. LSU Press published his two earlier novels in English in the following years, as well as other works up until 1990. Harcourt and Grove Press have since published some of his works in English.
Hendrik Jan Marsman, better known by his pen name, J. Bernlef, was a Dutch writer, poet, novelist and translator, much of whose work centres on mental perception of reality and its expression. He won numerous literary awards, including the Constantijn Huygens Prize in 1984 and the P. C. Hooft Award in 1994, both of which were for his work as a whole. His book Hersenschimmen features on the list of NRC's Best Dutch novels.
Peter Terrin is a Belgian novelist, and a winner of the European Union Prize for Literature. He is the author of several novels and two collections of short stories.
David Colmer is an Australian writer and translator, mainly of Dutch-language literature. He translates novels, poetry and children's literature and is the current English translator of Gerbrand Bakker, Dimitri Verhulst, Annie M.G. Schmidt, and Nachoem M. Wijnberg. Colmer's poetry translations include selections of the work of Hugo Claus, Anna Enquist, Cees Nooteboom, Ramsey Nasr and Paul van Ostaijen.

The Toneelschrijfprijs is an annual literary award awarded to the playwrights of a Dutch-language play that debuted in the preceding season. The award ceremony is held in either Flanders or the Netherlands. The winner of the prize receives €10,000. The prize was first awarded in 1988 as the Nederlands-Vlaamse Toneelschrijfprijs.
The Awater Poëzieprijs is a Dutch poetry award awarded by poetry magazine Awater. It was first awarded in 2008. The winner is chosen by professional poetry readers, such as critics and teachers, who are asked to submit their top three best new Dutch poetry collections of the past year. As such, the award is intended to reflect the industry's opinion.
The Theo Thijssen-prijs is a Dutch literary award awarded once every three years to a Dutch author of children's literature or young adult fiction. The award is not given for a particular work, but for the entire oeuvre. The award is named after Dutch writer, teacher and socialist politician Theo Thijssen. The winner of the prize receives €60,000 and a small replica of a statue of Theo Thijssen by Hans Bayens.

The Libris History Prize rewards history books originally written in Dutch, that appeal to a general audience. Originality, readability and historical soundness are the most important criteria. Established in 2007, it is awarded annually since 2009 by Libris, an association of independent Dutch booksellers, and amounts to €20,000 for the winner. All applications go through a selection process out of which a longlist of ten books are selected and announced. Subsequently, another selection round takes place which nominates a shortlist of the five best books. The author of each shortlisted book receives €1,500. Typically, the (independent) jury's selection is discussed and criticized in the Dutch press.
