Theodore Ralph Kulongoski is an American politician,judge,and lawyer who served as the 36th Governor of Oregon from 2003 to 2011. A member of the Democratic Party,he served in both houses of the Oregon Legislative Assembly and also served as the state Insurance Commissioner. He was the Attorney General of Oregon from 1993 to 1997 and an associate justice of the Oregon Supreme Court from 1997 to 2001. Kulongoski has served in all three branches of the Oregon state government.
The Oregon State Board of Higher Education was the statutory governing board for the Oregon University System from 1909 to 2015. The board was composed of eleven members appointed by the Governor of Oregon and confirmed by the Oregon State Senate. Nine members were appointed for four year terms;two members were students and appointed for two year terms.
Patsy Matsu Mink was an American attorney and politician from the U.S. state of Hawaii. Mink was a third-generation Japanese American,having been born and raised on the island of Maui. After graduating as valedictorian of the Maui High School class in 1944,she attended the University of Hawaii at Mānoa for two years and subsequently enrolled at the University of Nebraska,where she experienced racism and worked to have segregation policies eliminated. After illness forced her to return to Hawaii to complete her studies there,she applied to 12 medical schools to continue her education but was rejected by all of them. Following a suggestion by her employer,she opted to study law and was accepted at the University of Chicago Law School in 1948. While there,she met and married a graduate student in geology,John Francis Mink. When they graduated in 1951,Patsy Mink was unable to find employment and after the birth of their daughter in 1952,the couple moved to Hawaii.
George Henry Williams was an American judge and politician. He served as chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court,was the 32nd Attorney General of the United States,and was elected Oregon's U.S. senator,and served one term. Williams,as U.S. senator,authored and supported legislation that allowed the U.S. military to be deployed in Reconstruction of the southern states to allow for an orderly process of re-admittance into the United States. Williams was the first presidential Cabinet member to be appointed from the Pacific Coast. As attorney general under President Ulysses S. Grant,Williams continued the prosecutions that shut down the Ku Klux Klan. He had to contend with controversial election disputes in Reconstructed southern states. President Grant and Williams legally recognized P. B. S. Pinchback as the first African American state governor. Williams ruled that the Virginius,a gun-running ship captured by Spain during the Virginius Affair,did not have the right to bear the U.S. flag. However,he argued that Spain did not have the right to execute American crew members. Nominated for Supreme Court Chief Justice by President Grant,Williams failed to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate primarily due to Williams's removal of A. C. Gibbs,United States District Attorney at Portland,Oregon.
Christine Gregoire is an American politician who served as the 22nd governor of Washington from 2005 to 2013. A member of the Democratic Party,she defeated Republican candidate Dino Rossi in 2004,and again in 2008. She is the second female governor of Washington. Gregoire chaired the National Governors Association for the 2010–2011 term. She also served on the Governors' Council of the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington,D. C.
Walter Frederick Brown is an American politician and former presidential candidate of the Socialist Party USA (2004). Brown became a socialist in 1948 but served as Democratic member of the Oregon State Senate from 1975 to 1987. Brown also served as a Socialist Party of Oregon candidate for the U.S. Congress in 1998,2000,2002 and 2004 and has been the Pacific Green Party candidate for two statewide offices.
The Oregon Office of Degree Authorization (ODA) is a unit of the Office of Student Access and Completion,with responsibilities related to maintaining high standards in private higher education institutions in Oregon. ODA administers laws and provides oversight of private colleges and universities offering degree programs in the state,validates individual claims of degrees,enforces the closure of substandard or fraudulent higher education programs in the state,and enforces policy for publicly funded postsecondary programs and locations. Harry Dolan Boivin was an American lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Oregon House of Representatives for four terms,from 1935 through 1942. He also served in the Oregon State Senate from 1955 to 1972. He held the position of Speaker of the House during the 1937 legislative session,and was President of the Oregon Senate during the 1961 and 1965 sessions. Boivin was known as "The Fox" for his expertise in parliamentary procedures and ability to build coalitions within legislature. For almost a decade in the 1960s and early 1970s,Boivin and a small group of rural conservative Democrats joined Republicans to control the state senate.

Furthermore,Perkins had flipped five counties that Merkley had won in 2014.

Incumbent Republican Bev Clarno had agreed not to run for a full term. Clarno was appointed by Governor Kate Brown to replace Dennis Richardson,who died of cancer during his term.
Frank Jackson Van Dyke was an American politician,attorney,and a United States magistrate judge from the state of Oregon. He was a Republican who served eight years in the Oregon House of Representatives,where he represented a district in southern Oregon. He served as Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives during the 1949 legislative session. He was elected speaker by a unanimous vote of House members. Later,he served as chairman of the Oregon Board of Higher Education,chairman of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education,and chairman of the Oregon State Board of Education. He also served as a federal magistrate for 27 years.
