Neil Cottrill (born 1971 in Manchester) is a former English badminton player.
Cottrill started playing badminton as a 10-year-old and subsequently won a string of English National junior titles, winning the boys doubles at U12, U14, U16 & U18 and the mixed doubles at U14 & U18. Neil represented England at all age groups in events around Europe as a junior, winning the boys doubles in the U16 6 nations, Dutch junior, Danish Junior and won a bronze medal in the U18 European Junior (as an U17).
Unfortunately his doubles partner, John Quinn suffered a long-term knee injury during the U18 season, leaving him without a regular partner for two years. Once John recovered, the pair quickly became one of the top pairs in the United Kingdom, winning numerous county events, Friends Provident Grand Slam Series events and reaching the 1995 National Championships men's doubles final, losing to Chris Hunt & Simon Archer. Neil & John then went on the European Badminton Union circuit, where they were 1993 Czech Open champions. They soon progressed onto the World Grand Prix circuit, competing all round the world achieving a highest IBF men's doubles ranking of #12 in 1996. In 1995 they helped England inflict a rare defeat to China. [2] The pair were in the GB Olympic squad and set for Olympic qualification for the Atlanta Games in 1996, but Neil was hit with a virus linked to over training which left him unable to train or compete for the six months prior to the games, leaving their participation impossible.
Neil retired from full-time badminton in August 1996 and became a lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science in North Wales. He also started a sports science support and coaching business in 1996 where he has worked with a number of athletes from different sports, improving their fitness and dietary practice. The Welsh Badminton Union secured Neil's services to head up their High Performance Centre in North Wales and after working for the WBU for a few years, Neil teamed up with then National coach Chris Rees in the men's doubles at the Welsh Nationals, where they won the event from 1999 to 2002. Neil also won the mixed doubles with Jo Muggeridge on 2 occasions. Following this return to performance badminton, Neil represented the Welsh team at World and European team competition with his last appearance being at the 2002 Commonwealth games in his home city of Manchester.
Following Neil's badminton career, he moved into education and has spent the majority of his career to date as a lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science. Neil led the development of the BSc(Hons) degree in Sports Coaching & Exercise Science initially for the University of Wales, then Bangor University, for which he was the Programme Leader. During this time he completed an MSc in Exercise & Nutrition Science and specialises in Dietary Analysis and Training and Recovery.
Over the last few years, Neil has taken up a role at Badminton England where he is the Head of Coaching, helping to provide coaches with the opportunity to develop their skills and experience at all levels. Neil works out of the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes and still works with performance badminton players in North Wales.
Joe Cottrill is the son of Neil Cottrill and also a semi professional in badminton. [3]
Lina Vladimirovna Krasnoroutskaya is a retired tennis player. She is a former junior world No. 1 (1999), and in addition, she won the US Open junior title. Krasnoroutskaya, however, had a career blighted by injury.

María José Vargas is a Bolivian-born Argentine racquetball player. She is the current Pan American Champion in Women's Singles, as well as the Women's Team event. Vargas is also the current South American Racquetball Champion in Women's Singles and Doubles. Vargas has eight wins on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT), and has finished in the top 10 seven times - five of those were within the top three with her career best coming in 2014-15, when she finished #2.
Daniel de la Rosa is a Mexican racquetball and pickleball player. De La Rosa is the current International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in Men's doubles, winning the title in 2022 in his home city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He's won 12 times on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), including the 2021 US Open. De La Rosa is the first Mexican player to win the US Open, and he was the second Mexican player to win an IRT Tier 1 event.
Ismail bin Marjan was a badminton player from Malaya/Singapore who had won many individual and doubles titles at local, regional and international competitions throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He was best known for his doubles prowess as he partnered Ong Poh Lim to win several major honors in Asia and Europe. Ismail was the first Malay to have won the prestigious Thomas Cup.
Brian Gyetko, a native of Welland, Ontario, is a Canadian professional tennis player. As a junior player in 1985, Gyetko was ranked 18th in final International Tennis Federation world rankings and second in doubles with Andrew Sznajder. Gyetko played collegiately at Arizona State University from 1987 - 1991, where he achieved NCAA All American status. Gyetko was the male athlete of the year in 1991 at ASU, winning the Harry Rosenzweig Senior Award, which recognizes the top senior male student-athlete of the year based on academic and athletic excellence.
Sebastian Franco is a Colombian racquetball player. Franco is a former International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title in 2014 with Alejandro Herrera. In 2018, Franco became the first South American to win a tournament on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), when he won the March Madness event in San Antonio. He finished the IRT's Top 10 four straight seasons – from 2015–16 to 2018–19 – with a career high ranking of 6th in 2017–18.
Coby Iwaasa is a Canadian racquetball player. He is the current Canadian Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title with Kurtis Cullen in 2023. Iwaasa won the 2022 Pan American Championships in Men's Doubles with Samuel Murray, and was a bronze medallist at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
Gabriela Martinez is a Guatemalan racquetball player. Martinez is the current Pan American Games Champion in women's doubles. She is a former International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Champion in the women's singles, winning the title at the 2018 World Championships. Martinez has competed on the Guatemala National Team at international tournaments since 2012, garnering many medals across her career.
Natalia Mendez is a Bolivian-born Argentine racquetball player. She is the current South American Champion in Women's Doubles and the current Pan American Champion in Women's Doubles and the Women's Team event, winning those titles with Maria Jose Vargas. Mendez has also medaled at the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships as well as the Pan American Games.
Lyndon John Williams is a former Welsh badminton player, coach, and currently involved in disability badminton. He won the boys' doubles title at the European Junior Champions in 1983 and the men's doubles bronze medallist at the European Championships in 1988.
Christopher Rees is a former Welsh badminton player, who later works as national team coach and manager. He won the boys' doubles title at the European Junior Champions in 1983 and the men's doubles bronze medalist at the European Championships in 1988. He competed at the 1986, 1990, and 1994 Commonwealth Games.
Carlos Keller is a Bolivian racquetball player. Keller was on the Bolivian Men's Team that won back to back gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2019 and 2023. Their first gold medal at the 2019 games in Lima, Peru was Bolivia's first racquetball gold medal at the Pan Am Games, and they successfully defended that gold at the 2023 Games in Santiago, Chile. He was also part of the Bolivian men's team that won gold at the 2022 Pan American Racquetball Championships, which was Keller's third gold medal at Pan Am Championships to go with his two Men's Singles titles, won in 2018 and 2019.
Montserrat Mejía is a Mexican racquetball player. She finished #1 on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour in 2022–23, becoming the second Mexican to do so after Paola Longoria. Mejía is the current Pan American Champion in both Women's Singles and Doubles.
Bojan Božović was a Serbian former professional tennis player and tennis coach. In his career, Božović defeated several world-renowned players, such as Ernests Gulbis, Robin Haase, Marin Čilić, Sergei Bubka, and Fabio Fognini, but he is now better known for his role in Novak Djokovic's junior career.
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic's main accomplishments as a junior player came in the U14 circuit of the ETA Junior Tour, where, at the U14 European championship in 2001, he won both the singles tournament over Lukáš Lacko and the doubles with compatriot Bojan Božović. Djokovic also led the Serbian team to victory in the European Summer Cup, thus ending the year as a European champion in singles, doubles and in team competition, while also winning the silver medal at the ITF World Junior Championship in a team competition for Yugoslavia. Djokovic ended 2001 at the top of the ETA rankings for U14s, one place ahead of future rival Andy Murray at No. 2. He was also briefly the No. 1-ranked U16 player in 2003.
Jake Bredenbeck is an American racquetball player. Bredenbeck is a four time USA Racquetball (USAR) National Champion: three times in Men's Singles and once in Men's Doubles. He's also won the International Racquetball Tour, and represented the USA internationally.
Erika Manilla is an American racquetball player. Manilla is the current Pan American Games Champion in Mixed Doubles, winning gold with her brother Adam at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. She also won doubles at the 2022 US Open Racquetball Championships with Natalia Mendez, and has won six USA Racquetball (USAR) National titles.
