Nerdcore for Life is a 2008 documentary film about the world of Nerdcore hip-hop directed by Dan Lamoureux and produced by Crapbot Productions. [1]

Nerdcore genre of hip hop music

Nerdcore is a genre of music characterized by themes and subject matter considered to be of general interest to nerds. Santa Barbara’s Nerf Herder were the first band known to use the term in the mid-90s when referring to their nerdy themes, the term being a play on the “Nardcore” music of their peers.

About the film

Nerdcore For Life explores the world of “geek rap” known as Nerdcore hip-hop and features appearances by many of the top names in the genre including Optimus Rhyme, MC Lars, Beefy, mc chris, MC Router and Ytcracker. Filming took place throughout 2006 and 2007. Nerdcore For Life had its world premiere, April 5, 2008 at the Wisconsin Film Festival. [2]

Optimus Rhyme

Optimus Rhyme was a hip hop group from Seattle, Washington. Optimus Rhyme is most widely considered a nerdcore hip hop group because of the nerdy nature of their lyrics. The name of the band as well as the stage names of the members and a majority of their lyrics refer to the Transformers franchise. Their music is a combination of rapped hip hop lyrics with funk rock music. Optimus Rhyme formed in Seattle in 2001.

MC Lars American rapper

Andrew Robert Nielsen, known professionally as MC Lars, is an American rapper, cartoonist, YouTuber, game designer, poet and podcaster. He is one of the self-proclaimed originators of "lit-hop" and was one of the first rappers to sample and reference post-punk and emo bands.

MC Router American rapper

Abedah Ritchie, is a former Nerdcore rapper, formerly Kristin Nicole Ritchie and better known by the stage name MC Router. In 2009 she worked in the Netherlands under the new stage name Krisje before leaving hip hop altogether. Ritchie later converted to Islam, changing her given name to Abedah, and became a translator. Her conversion has caused problems with her family.

Ken Lawrence is a nerdcore hip hop artist who purports to be theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking rapping under the name MC Hawking.

The Sucklord artist

The Sucklord ) is a New York pop artist. He manufactures unlicensed action figures and toys through his company, Suckadelic. The Sucklord appeared as a contestant in the second season of Work of Art: The Next Great Artist. On September 10, 2012, the Sucklord appeared in the fifth episode of Bravo's Gallery Girls reality TV show, in which he produced limited editions of action figures and sold them at the girls' East Village shop, End of Century.

Brief cameos are made by funky49, MC Gigahertz, the Stunt Junkies, IllGill, The Futuristic Sex Robotz and Rai Kamishiro. [3]

Viral marketing

The documentary gained notoriety on the web and in the media after several videos related to the film spread virally across the Internet. [4] As of August 2010 the trailer for the documentary has been viewed over 850,000 times on YouTube alone. [5]

DVD release

Nerdcore For Life was released on DVD on August 3, 2010. The film is distributed by Journeyman Pictures and Indiepix. [6]

"Hot Nigga" is the debut single by American hip hop recording artist Bobby Shmurda. "Hot Nigga" was released for digital download on July 25, 2014 by Epic Records and GS9.
