Hordaland was a county in Norway, bordering Sogn og Fjordane, Buskerud, Telemark, and Rogaland counties. Hordaland was the third largest county after Akershus and Oslo by population. The county government was the Hordaland County Municipality which is located in Bergen. Before 1972, the city of Bergen was its own separate county apart from Hordaland. On 1 January 2020, the county was merged with neighbouring Sogn og Fjordane county to form the new Vestland county.

The village lies along the river Storelvi, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) northeast of the village of Stamneshella. The Modalen Tunnel is located about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of Flatkvål. The village of Nesheim lies about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) to the east. Flatkvål is the site of Eksingedal Church.

The village lies at the western end of the Bergsdalen valley, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of the village of Stanghelle on the shore of the Veafjorden. The village lies along the European route E16, the Bergen Line, and the river Daleelva. The 0.72-square-kilometre (180-acre) village has a population (2019) of 1,193 and a population density of 1,657 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,290/sq mi). The small village of Dalegarden at the southern end of Dale is included in the "urban area" of Dale.
Mo is the administrative centre of Modalen municipality, located in northern Vestland county, Norway. The village lies at the mouth of the river Moelva, where it empties into the Romarheimsfjorden. The small village has about 100 residents. It is the seat of the municipal government and it is also the site of Mo Church, the only Church of Norway church in the municipality. The main "centre" of the village lies along the shore of the fjord where there are some small shops and a hotel that is run by some Icelanders.

Bergsdalen is a river valley in Vaksdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The 16-kilometre (9.9 mi) long valley begins at the lake Hamlagrøvatnet on the border of the municipalities of Vaksdal, Voss, and Kvam. The valley then runs to the northwest along the river Bergsdalselvi all the way to the village of Dale where the valley ends. This valley was historically part of the main route between the city of Bergen and Voss, until the European route E16 highway was built to the north of the valley.
