Nev Pask

Neville John Pask (born in Gympie, Australia, died 25 February 2018) [1] was an Australian businessman and one of Queensland's biggest property developers, having built 1500 homes and many other projects. [2] [3]

He was described as a land baron,[ by whom? ] with holdings estimated to be worth A$640 million in 2007, with a land bank of sufficient size to allow the eventual construction of 9000 homes. [4] He was the fifth wealthiest Queenslander, with a net worth in 2008 of A$875 million according to the Business Review Weekly Rich List. [5]

His philanthropic causes included the Police Citizens Youth Club, Zoe Reed Hospice, Royal Children's Hospital and the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Community Trust. [6] In 2003, he was awarded the Centenary Medal for distinguished service to business and commerce through the construction industry. [7]

He was considered a shrewd investor in property;[ by whom? ] in 2001 he paid $24 million for land in the Melbourne outer suburb of Rowville and eventually made a $50 million gross profit on that development alone. [8] In 2004, Pask was accused by a farmer who had sold him farm land of exploiting "inside knowledge that the area would be rezoned for urban use". Pask defended the deal, pointing out that the farmer had legal advice at the time of the deal. [9]

The Tugun Bypass is a 7.5-kilometre-long (4.7 mi) stretch of motorway-grade road, bypassing through the suburb of Tugun on the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia. The speed limit on the Tugun bypass is 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) and provides a high-speed motorway link between the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales, separating interstate vehicles from local traffic. There is a 334-metre (1,096 ft) tunnel under the extension to the Gold Coast Airport runway. The bypass connects directly to the Pacific Motorway between the Stewart Road interchange at Currumbin and the Tweed Heads Bypass north of Kennedy Drive. Opened in 2008, it has significantly relieved traffic congestion on the Gold Coast Highway corridor. The Tugun Bypass carries the M1 designation and is officially called the "Pacific Motorway". The Tugun bypass has two vehicle lanes in each direction, with provision for widening to three lanes in the future.

The Algiers Hotel was an Arabian/Persian-themed hotel located at 2845 South Las Vegas Boulevard on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. The Algiers opened on November 25, 1953, as a 110-room sister property to the adjacent Thunderbird hotel and casino. The Algiers was noted for mostly retaining its original design throughout its operation, giving it the appearance of an older Las Vegas hotel. In 1991, the property was earmarked for possible condemnation, allowing for the realignment of nearby streets in order to reduce traffic.
