School District 17 is a defunct Canadian school district in New Brunswick. It was an Anglophone district operating 18 public schools (gr. K-12) in Queens and Sunbury counties. Enrollment was approximately 6,000 students and 580 teachers. District 17 was headquartered in Oromocto. In 2012 it was amalgamated into Anglophone West School District.

Oromocto High School (OHS) is a high school located in Oromocto, New Brunswick, Canada. It is the third largest school in the Anglophone West School District (ASD-W) which contains 70 institutions and around 23 000 students total. OHS is the source of education for about 1032 of those students, with between 1000 and 1100 annually. Oromocto High School is also the location for the Oromocto Education Centre which looks over different schools within ASD-W within Oromocto and the surrounding area. The principal is Kevin Inch, vice-principals are Maxine McConnell, Molly Nugent, and a third to be determined for the 2022-23 school year.

The Anglophone Crisis, also known as the Ambazonia War or the Cameroonian Civil War, is an ongoing armed conflict between Cameroon Armed Forces and Ambazonian separatist rebel groups, part of the long-standing Anglophone problem. Following the suppression of 2016–17 protests by Cameroonian authorities, separatists in the Anglophone regions launched a guerrilla campaign and later proclaimed independence. Within two months, the government of Cameroon declared war on the separatists and sent its army into the Anglophone regions.
