New Ross Golf Club is an Irish golf club founded in 1905 and based in Tinneranny, New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland. The club's slogan is "A Pleasure to Play". [1]
The land for a nine-hole golf course was acquired on Mockler's estate at Castle Annaghs, under a lease with a seven-year duration. [1] The course was briefly relocated to the estate of Reggie Jeffares at Tinneranny in 1917, but follow Jeffares death in 1918, that lease was not renewed. [1] The course was reopened at Annaghs in 1926 before that lease was terminated, and another course was laid out at Chilcomb Park, the present site of the Albatross factory. [1] In 1928, the Land Commission acquired the Jeffares estate, and the Club had a permanent home under a sporting lease until 1983, when the member agreed to buy the property outright. [1]
The period from 1991 to 1997 was probably the most progressive period in the historical development of New Ross Golf Club. In 1992, the club was among the first member clubs to grant equal rights to women. [1] Plans were drafted to build the current clubhouse in 1997. The clubhouse was completed and opened to members in 1998.[ citation needed ]
In 2005, its centenary year, it was decided to redesign the 11th hole building a brand new green. The 18th green was also re-designed. Further redevelopment of the 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th greens commenced in September 2008 and is due to be completed and open to play in May 2009.[ citation needed ][ needs update ]
The back nine has been in play for over a hundred years while the front nine has been in play since 1995. The new nine was designed by Des Smyth (2006 Ryder Cup Vice-Captain) and Declan Brannigan, [2] and is an example of modern design with old style golfing values.[ citation needed ] In the far distance forming a spectacular backdrop to the 11th green lies the fifteen mile stretch of the Blackstairs Mountains from Dranagh to Mount Leinster, separating counties Carlow and Wexford. [1]
In 2009, the club won the Association of Land Contractors of Ireland Award after redesigning four new greens on its course. [2]

Donald James Ross was a golf course designer. He was born in Dornoch, Scotland, but became a citizen of and spent most of his adult life in the United States. Ross started his career by being an apprentice to Old Tom Morris at St Andrews in Scotland around 1899. With the help of an American agronomy student, fellow Scotsman Robert White from St. Andrews, Ross decided to move to America. Ross invested all his life savings to move to the United States and walked off the boat with only $2. In America, he got his first job at Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. He quickly rose to the position of golf professional at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, where he began his course designing career.

The Penn State Golf Courses are two 18-hole courses located in State College, Pennsylvania, US, operated by The Pennsylvania State University. The individual 18-hole courses are named after the school colors. The Seattle Golf Club occupies about 150 acres (61 ha) in Shoreline, Washington, immediately north of Seattle. Although accounts disagree, Lou Gellos's history of the club confidently states that the 18-hole golf course was originally designed by Minneapolis-based Scottish golf course designer John Ball. It was most recently redesigned in 1996 by Arnold Palmer. The golf course and clubhouse were developed in conjunction with The Highlands, an adjacent residential development. The club had purchased 380 acres (150 ha), and the portion not used for the course was divided into fifty parcels of land, all of which were initially sold to members of the club; those fifty parcels constitute The Highlands. Membership can be obtained only by invitation "through the sponsorship of Active members."
