New Zealand competed at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 9 to 22 January 2020. They were represented by a team of 20 athletes, who took part in nine sports. [1] The chef de mission was Jesse Teat. [1] The flagbearer at the opening ceremony was biathlon athlete and cross-country skier Campbell Wright, and freestyle skier Luca Harrington was the flagbearer at the closing ceremony. [2] [3]

The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, officially known as the I Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), were an international multi-sport event for youths that took place in Innsbruck, Austria, on 13–22 January 2012. They were the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics, a major sports and cultural festival celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games. Approximately 1100 athletes from 70 countries competed. The decision for Innsbruck to host the Games was announced on 12 December 2008 after mail voting by 105 International Olympic Committee (IOC) members. Innsbruck is the first city to host three winter Olympic events, having previously hosted the 1964 Winter Olympics and the 1976 Winter Olympics.
The 2016 Winter Youth Olympics, officially known as the II Winter Youth Olympic Games, took place in and around Lillehammer, Norway, between 12 February and 21 February 2016. They were the fourth Youth Olympic Games and the second winter edition. Lillehammer was awarded the games on 7 December 2011 as the only candidate. The games reused venues from the 1994 Winter Olympics; this made Lillehammer the first city to host both regular and Youth Olympics. In addition to Lillehammer, sports were contested in Hamar, Gjøvik and Øyer.

Austria competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from 7 to 23 February 2014. The team was composed of 132 athletes in 14 sports, consisting of 90 men and 42 women. The 132 athletes is 27 more than the country's previous largest Winter Olympics team.

On 21 February it was announced that bobsledder William Frullani had tested positive for methylhexanamine and was sent home from Sochi. For the first time since 1980, Italy failed to win a gold medal in an Olympics. Closest was the alpine skier Christof Innerhofer who lost the gold in downhill against Matthias Mayer of Austria with only six hundredths of a second separating the two.

The 2024 Winter Youth Olympics, officially known as the IV Winter Youth Olympic Games and commonly known as Gangwon 2024, was a winter multi-sport event, cultural festival, and fourth edition of the Winter Youth Olympics held between 19 January and 1 February 2024 in Gangwon Province, South Korea.
Russia took part at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland from 9 to 22 January 2020. A total of 104 athletes competed in 16 sports. Russian athletes won a record of 10 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze medals, topping host Switzerland in the overall ranking.

Campbell Wright is an American-New Zealand biathlete. In November 2021, he became the second teenager to score Biathlon World Cup points. He represented New Zealand in biathlon at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He became the first New Zealander and Southern Hemisphere athlete to win a medal in biathlon after winning the 2023 Junior World Championships in the 10km Sprint at Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan. In July 2023, he joined the US Biathlon team. He holds dual citizenship to New Zealand and the USA.
