NewsON is a local news service that enables users to see live and on demand local news broadcasts and video clips from TV stations across the United States. As of February 2021, NewsON includes over 275 TV stations from over 160 markets, covering more than 75% of the US population. [1] [2]

The app is available on mobile phones, tablets and connected TVs, including iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Android tablets, Roku connected TV devices, Fire TV [3] and Apple TV. [4] NewsON also offers a streaming website. [5]

NewsON was announced on June 9, 2015, as a venture formed by five of the largest TV station groups in the United States. [6] The founding members were ABC Owned Television Stations, Cox Media Group, Hearst Television, Media General, and Raycom Media. Hubbard Broadcasting announced its participation as an investor in November 2015, Sinclair Broadcast Group announced its investment in January 2016, [7] and Nexstar Broadcasting Group (now Nexstar Media Group) announced its investment in April 2016. [8]

Current participating station groups are Berkshire Hathaway, Block Communications, Capitol Broadcasting Company, CBS News and Stations, Cowles Company, Cox Media Group, E. W. Scripps Company, Fort Myers Broadcasting Company, Forum Communications, Hearst Television, Heritage Broadcasting Company, Hubbard Broadcasting, Morgan Murphy Media, News-Press & Gazette Company, Paxton Media Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tegna Inc. The service launched to the public on November 4, 2015 on iOS, Android, and Roku. [13] Viewers can share what they’ve seen on social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. [14]

On January 1, 2020, ABC Owned Television Stations removed their eight stations from the service. [15]

In November 2021, Gray Television removed their stations from NewsON in favor of Zeam (formerly known as VUit). [16]

WPMT is a television station licensed to York, Pennsylvania, United States, serving as the Fox affiliate for the Susquehanna Valley region. Through a channel sharing agreement with Harrisburg–licensed PBS member WITF-TV, the two stations transmit using WITF-TV's spectrum from an antenna in Susquehanna Township.

Announced on February 28, 2017, the virtual multichannel video programming distributor offers a selection of live linear channel feeds and on-demand content from more than 100 television networks and over 30 OTT-originated services, as well as a cloud-based DVR.

PlayStation Vue was an American streaming television service that was owned by the Sony Interactive Entertainment subdivision of the Sony Corporation of America division of Sony. Launched with a limited major-market rollout on March 18, 2015, the service – which was structured in the style of a multichannel video programming distributor – combined live TV, on-demand video, and cloud-based DVR to stream television programs, movies, and sporting events directly to a PlayStation console or other supported device – including smart TVs, digital media players and apps – without a subscription to a cable or satellite television provider. Targeting cord cutters, PlayStation Vue was designed to complement subscription video-on-demand services. As of August 26, 2018, the service had approximately 745,000 subscribers. On October 29, 2019, Sony announced PlayStation Vue would be ending service on January 30, 2020, because "the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected".

Sling TV is an American streaming television service operated by Sling TV LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dish Network. Unveiled on January 5, 2015, at the Consumer Electronics Show, the virtual multichannel video programming distributor aims to complement subscription video on demand services for cord cutters, offering a selection of major cable channels and OTT-originated services that can be streamed through smart TVs, digital media players and apps. The service is available in the United States and Puerto Rico as of 2015.

KidsClick was a daily children's programming block distributed by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which premiered on July 1, 2017. The block, which primarily consisted of long-form animated series as well as some short-form content, was carried in the U.S. on terrestrial television network TBD, and on Sinclair-owned/operated television stations in several markets. At launch, the block was available in 75 million households. The block marked the return of traditional weekday cartoons and Saturday morning cartoons to terrestrial television, as well as the first children's programming block on U.S. free-to-air television not to comply with Children's Television Act regulations since the Saban Brands-produced Vortexx was discontinued on September 27, 2014.

Stirr is an American ad-supported video streaming service owned by Thinking Media. The streaming service is available on the web and via apps for iOS, Android devices and various streaming TV devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Android TV. Stirr's slogan is, "the new free TV."
