Nicholas Chiaravalloti (born November 28,1972) is an American Democratic Party politician,who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2016 to 2022,where he represented the 31st Legislative District.
Chiaravalloti was born and raised in Bayonne,the son of Italian immigrants who came to the United States in the 1950s. He graduated in 1990 from St. Peter's Preparatory School. [1] He received a BA in History from the Catholic University of America. A recipient of a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark,Chiaravalloti was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1998. [2] In 2017,he received a Doctorate in Education from Saint Peter's University.
A resident of Bayonne,Chiaravalloti is married to Nancy Donofrio. They have three sons:AJ,Nico and Joshua. [3]
Chiaravalloti currently serves as the Vice President for External Affairs and Senior Counsel to the President at Hudson County Community College. [4] Formerly,Chiaravalloti was an attorney with the Law Firm of Weiner-Lesniak [5] and worked part-time at Saint Peter's University as Director of Community Engagement in the Advancement Department. [6] He previously served as Executive Director of the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership. [2] Chiaravalloti is the founder and president of his own consulting firm,Chiaravalloti,LLC,and was a partner in Magis Strategies,LLC. From 2002-2007,Chiaravalloti served as the State Director for the office of United States Senator Robert Menendez. [2]
Chiaravalloti has served on the Board of Trustees for Holy Family Academy and of his alma mater,St. Peter's Preparatory School,as well as of Hudson Cradle and Bergen Community Chest. [2] He also volunteers with Boy Scouts of America,Bayonne Youth Soccer Association and Bayonne Little League.
Chiaravalloti was first elected to the State Assembly in 2015,and was sworn into office on January 12,2016. In 2018,he was named Deputy Parliamentarian by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin. In January 2020,he was named Majority Whip of the Assembly and sat on the Judiciary and Commerce and Development Committees,and also served as the Vice Chair of the Human Services Committee. [7]
Chiaravalloti unexpectedly lost the backing of the Hudson County Democratic Organization in early 2021 after Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis threw his support behind longshoreman and union official William Sampson. [8] Chiaravalloti initially planned to seek re-election that year anyways,but ultimately chose to retire. [9]

Located in the Gateway Region,Bayonne is situated on a peninsula between Newark Bay to the west,the Kill Van Kull to the south,and New York Bay to the east. As of the 2020 United States census,the city was the state's 15th-most-populous municipality,surpassing 2010 #15 Passaic,with a population of 71,686,an increase of 8,662 (+13.7%) from the 2010 census count of 63,024,which in turn reflected an increase of 1,182 (+1.9%) from the 61,842 counted in the 2000 census. The Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program calculated that the city's population was 69,527 in 2022,ranking the city the 543rd-most-populous in the country.
Raymond J. Lesniak is an American Democratic Party politician,who served in the New Jersey State Senate from 1983 to 2018,where he represented the 20th Legislative District. Before entering New Jersey's upper house,the Senate,Lesniak served in the General Assembly from 1978 to 1983. Lesniak was once considered a major power broker in the Democratic Party,having served as New Jersey Democratic State Chairman,also serving as New Jersey Chair for Clinton/Gore in 1996 and as a major fundraiser for Gore/Lieberman in 2000. Lesniak finished a distant fourth place as a candidate for Governor of New Jersey in the 2017 election.
Joseph V. Doria Jr. is an American Democratic Party politician,who served as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs in the cabinet of Governor Jon Corzine from 2007 until his resignation in July 2009. He is a former Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly,State Senator for the 31st Legislative District,and a former Mayor of Bayonne,a position he held from July 1998 to October 2007.
Saint Peter's Preparatory School is an independent,preparatory,and all-male day school located in Jersey City,in Hudson County in the U.S. state of New Jersey,within the Archdiocese of Newark. Founded in 1872 by the Jesuits,it is operated as part of the Jesuit East Province. The school has been accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.

It was located within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school had been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1978.

She was sworn into office on November 8,2007. She is the widow of former Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham,who died in 2004.

It was held concurrently with the 2020 United States presidential election,as well as various other elections. The primary elections were moved from June 2,2020,to July 7,2020,due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns. Incumbent senator Cory Booker was first elected in a 2013 special election to complete the term of fellow Democrat Frank Lautenberg,who died in office.

Incumbent Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is term-limited and ineligible to seek a third consecutive term. Jack Ciattarelli,the Republican nominee for governor in 2021,has stated he intends to run again.

The 2025 Jersey City mayoral election will be held on November 4,2025. Incumbent Democratic Mayor Steven Fulop was eligible to seek re-election to a fourth 4 year term,but has announced that he is retiring to run for governor.
