Nicholas Lee is a Singaporean actor and producer best known for portraying Ronnie Tan on the English-language popular and award-winning Singaporean local sitcom Under One Roof .

Early life and education

Lee attended the Anglo-Chinese School. [1]

Career

Lee starred as Ronnie Tan in the popular English-language local sitcom Under One Roof , which aired from 1995 to 2003. [2] [3] He also starred as Dr. Benedict Wee in another English-language sitcom My Grandson, the Doctor , which aired from 1996 to 1997. [4] [5] He then starred in the play Closer in 2000. [6] In 1999, he also starred in the horror television series Shiver. [7]

His contract with the Television Corporation of Singapore ended in 2000, and was not renewed. He and his friend Bernard Oh founded XXX Studios, a production company, in 2002. [8] [9] In 2003, he starred in the comedy film City Sharks . [10] [11]

In 2007, he starred in the series Random Acts. [12] He starred in the 2008 comedy television series First Class . [1]

He produced the television drama 2025. [13]

Personal life

He is married to Catherine Kee, a dancer and actress. [14]

Under One Roof was an English-language sitcom in Singapore. First aired in 1995, it was the first locally produced sitcom in Singapore. A critical and popular success, the show won the Best Comedy Programme or Series Award at the Asian Television Awards in both 1996 and 1997, a Best comedy actor award, three best comedy actress awards and was a finalist in the "Best Sitcom" category at the International Emmy Awards as well as the New York Festivals Awards. It paved the way for future Singaporean local sitcoms such as Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd and Police & Thief. It was also one of the most popular sitcoms in Singapore just like the other 2 popular Singaporean local sitcom and drama Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd and Growing Up respectively.

City Sharks is a 2003 Singaporean comedy road film directed by Esan Sivalingam, starring Sheikh Haikel, Nicholas Lee and Hans Isaac. The film was shot from October 2001 to January 2002, during which a monsoon destroyed a key location. Sivalingam filed two lawsuits against Malaysian production house Gambar Tanah Licin for refusing to release the film. The first lawsuit, which was quickly settled out of court, was for the production house refusing to release the film. The second lawsuit, which ended in January 2003 and resulted in him being awarded $310,000, was for financial mismanagement.
