Nick McLennan (born 23 June 1988) is a New Zealand born Rugby Union footballer who plays as Stand-off/Fullback/Centre for Edinburgh Rugby in the Pro14 and the Scotland Sevens team.
Born in New Zealand, he qualifies for Scotland through his grandmother, Jean, from Balmoral, and his grandfather, Alexander McLennan, who was from Dunblane and served with the Gordon Highlanders.
He made his Sevens début at the Dubai 7s reaching the Plate final. [1]
Rugby sevens is a variant of rugby union in which teams are made up of seven players playing seven-minute halves, instead of the usual 15 players playing 40-minute halves. Rugby sevens is administered by World Rugby, the body responsible for rugby union worldwide. The game is popular at all levels, with amateur and club tournaments generally held in the summer months. Serevi is renowned for his achievements in rugby sevens, while also enjoying a long career in fifteen-a-side rugby at both club and national team levels. Nicknamed "The Wizard" by commentators, he is widely considered to be the greatest rugby sevens player in the history of the game. A biography of Serevi titled Waisale Serevi: King of Sevens by Nick Darvenzi was published in 2018.
Rugby World Cup Sevens (RWCS) is the quadrennial world championship of rugby sevens, a variant of rugby union. Organised by World Rugby, it currently consists of men's and women's tournaments, and is the highest level of competition in the sport outside of the Summer Olympics.
Edinburgh University Rugby Football Club is a leading rugby union side based in Edinburgh, Scotland which currently plays its fixtures in the Edinburgh Regional Shield competition and the British Universities Premiership. It is one of the eight founder members of the Scottish Rugby Union. Andrew Turnbull is a retired Scottish rugby sevens player. He represented both Scotland and Great Britain at rugby sevens, including the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He scored more tries for Scotland in sevens than any other player, including 19 in 2005 and 118 tries on the HSBC Sevens World Series alone. Turnbull also played for Watsonians and the Scottish Institute of Sport, and played for Scotland U19, Scotland U21, and the Barbarian F.C.
