In 2024–2025, Swedish media reported that Niclas Adler was detained in absentia by a Swedish court on suspicion of multiple serious economic offences, including aggravated bookkeeping and tax crimes. [3] Swedish media have reported that Adler left Sweden while under investigation and is believed to be residing in Indonesia. [4]

Several of Adler's companies have been the subject of investigations and creditor actions. A property associated with his group, the former Marviken power-plant site near Norrköping, was in 2025 listed for enforced auction by the Swedish Enforcement Authority after defaults on loans. [5] The site had been promoted as a future data-centre and energy-storage hub in cooperation with U.S.-based EdgeMode Inc., whose memorandum of understanding with Adler-linked entities was non-binding. [6] The combination of pending legal proceedings and the site's enforcement sale has created uncertainty around Adler's business activities and the status of the Marviken project.

According to a background review commissioned by the municipality of Norrköping in late 2020, Niclas Adler's company group was reported as ‟over-leveraged, with tax liabilities and connections to Chinese interests”. The municipality cited these findings, including concerns of a possible national-security risk linked to the Chinese ties, when in November 2020 it terminated its cooperation with Adler's project for the former Marviken power-plant site on Vikbolandet.
