Nigel MacArthur, also known as Stuart Russell and Nigel Harris, is a freelance broadcaster in Kent on Radio Caroline, EKR and KMFM. [1]
MacArthur's first job was at the offshore station Radio Caroline in the late seventies, under the "Stuart Russell" moniker. The radioship, the Mi Amigo, sank in a storm in 1980 putting the station off the air for several years. He returned in 1984 aboard the station's new ship, the Ross Revenge , and adopted the name "Nigel Harris" a few years later. Like most Caroline DJs at the time he used an alias to ensure anonymity. He was on board the Ross Revenge for the collapse of its famous 300-foot-tall (91 m) mast in a 1987 storm, and was filming inside the ship as the event took place. He was also there for the illegal British / Dutch raid which silenced the station for a while in 1989. He was appointed programme controller in 1989 and was the last person to hold this position whilst Radio Caroline was at sea.
He worked on the Voice of peace in Israel in the early nineties before going to Invicta FM in 1992. There followed work at Essex FM and satellite station EKR. In 1995 he was involved in Cruise FM, an RSL station in Sittingbourne and Swale which broadcast on 107.6 and today Nigel continues his Radio Caroline connections broadcasting from studios in Medway. He currently works for one of Kent's major broadcasters, KMFM, previously hosting the weekend breakfast show on KMFM Canterbury and the Sunday afternoon show on KMFM Shepway and White Cliffs Country.
MacArthur attended St Edmund's School in Canterbury, Kent where he studied organ under John Brough and is Organist at St Michael's Church in Sittingbourne, Kent and plays for all the major services in church. Concerts and recitals take place in St Michael's Church throughout the year with the Canterbury Cathedral choir visiting in the summer of 2006. The St Michael's Choir and organists visit other churches to sing Evensong including several visits to Rochester Cathedral.
MacArthur has recently written a book, Ships in Troubled Waters, ( ISBN 978-0-9563996-0-1) which details his life at boarding school and on several offshore radio stations, including Radio Caroline, the Voice of Peace and the offshore Radio Paradise.

The East Kent Railway (EKR) was an early railway operating between Strood and Faversham in Kent, England, during 1858 and 1859. In the latter year it changed its name to the London, Chatham and Dover Railway to reflect its ambitions to build a rival line from London to Dover via Chatham and Canterbury. The line as far as Canterbury was opened in 1860 and the extension to Dover Priory on 22 July 1861. The route to London Victoria station via the Mid-Kent line and the West End of London and Crystal Palace Railway opened on 1 November 1861.
St Edmund's School Canterbury is a private day and boarding school located in Canterbury, Kent, England and established in 1749. The extensive school grounds were acquired in 1855. The school currently caters for girls and boys aged 3–18, including the Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral.

He is best known for founding the choir and the pattern of daily sung worship at the new Guildford Cathedral in 1961, as well as directing the music at the 1981 wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales at St Paul's Cathedral in London.
Radio Caroline is a British radio station founded in 1964 by Ronan O'Rahilly and Alan Crawford, initially to circumvent the record companies' control of popular music broadcasting in the United Kingdom and the BBC's radio broadcasting monopoly. Unlicensed by any government for most of its early life, it was a pirate radio station that never became illegal as such due to operating outside any national jurisdiction, although after the Marine, &c., Broadcasting (Offences) Act 1967 it became illegal for a British subject to associate with it.

Sacred Classics was a weekly two–hour radio show originating from WBVM-FM in Tampa, Florida, featuring choral and organ music from international venues. Founded in October 1983, it was broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as streamed over the Internet at various times to accommodate listeners worldwide. The program was produced by Atlas Communications and hosted by Jim Howes, who used the thousands of pipe organ and choral recordings in his personal collection, gathered from his travels around the world. Programs typically included music from such diverse locations as England, Germany, South Africa, Riga, Latvia, and Sydney, Australia, along with prominent church choirs and organists in the U.S. Live organ concerts were also sponsored and recorded for later broadcast, as in 2004 when celebrated organist Frederick Swann performed at the 88-rank organ of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Bermuda. The final showed aired on September 26, 2021.
