Dhubri District (Pron:ˈdʊbri) is an administrative district in the Indian state of Assam. The district headquarters are located at Dhubri town which is situated ~290 km from Guwahati. This was also the headquarters of erstwhile undivided Goalpara district which was created in 1876 by the British government. In 1983,Goalpara district was divided into four districts and Dhubri is one among those. Dhubri district is one among the many Muslim-majority districts of Assam. In 2016,Dhubri was divided again to form South Salmara-Mankachar District.

It is under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway. The Malbazar–Changrabandha section of the line was a metre-gauge line,before its gauge conversion began on 2002. The Malbazar–Changrabandha section was re-opened to public on 20 January 2016 after gauge conversion. The New Changrabandha–New Cooch Behar broad-gauge line was built as an extension as a part of the New Maynaguri–Jogighopa rail line to provide an alternate link from North Bengal to Assam and was opened to public on 21 February 2016.
ʿAbdul Jalil Choudhury Badarpuri was a Bengali Deobandi Islamic scholar,teacher and politician. Born in what is now Bangladesh,Choudhury became one of the senior disciples of Hussain Ahmed Madani from Sylhet District. He relocated to Badarpur,Karimganj following the Partition of Bengal in 1947 and served as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly for several terms. Choudhury has many contributions in Northeast India,covering Islamic and social development,and had participated in the Bengali Language Movement of the Barak Valley.
Abūal-ʿAzīz Muḥammad Ismāʿīl ʿAlī was a Bengali politician,teacher and activist of the Khilafat Movement. He wrote poetry in Urdu under the pen name of Ālam. His Diwan-i-Alam poem led to the Calcutta Alia Madrasa awarding him the title of Parrot of Bengal in 1910.
