Nikhil Rathi is an Indian technology entrepreneur known for founding Web Werks, a data center company established in 1996. He led the company as CEO until its full acquisition by Iron Mountain in 2025. Rathi is also the founder of NeoSOFT Private Limited and the Mumbai Internet Exchange. [1]

Early life and education

Rathi began his career in technology at the age of 17, founding Web Werks in 1996 with an initial investment of $30 to host a single web page. [2] He holds a Master's degree in Computer Science and an MBA in Marketing from Nichols College in the United States. Additionally, he has a graduate degree in Finance and Business. [3]

Career

Web Werks

Rathi founded Web Werks as a small web hosting company. The company then gradually started it's Tier III and Tier IV data centers in cities including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. [4] In 2021, Web Werks entered into a joint venture with Iron Mountain, [5] a global storage and information management company. By 2025, Iron Mountain had fully acquired Web Werks, rebranding it as Iron Mountain Data Centers. At the time of acquisition, Web Werks had six operational data centers and was developing additional facilities, including one in Chennai. [6]

Other Ventures

Rathi is also the founder of NeoSOFT Private Limited, an IT consulting and software solutions company. He established the Mumbai Internet Exchange, which later merged with DE-CIX India, becoming one of the largest internet exchanges in the region. [7]

Post-Web Werks Activities

After stepping down as CEO of Web Werks in 2025, Rathi announced plans to focus on NeoSOFT and other ventures, including mentoring entrepreneurs and investing in the Indian software industry. [6]
