On 12 February 2018, two passenger trains collided at Niklasdorf, Austria. One person was killed and 22 were injured.
At 12:45 Central European Time on 12 February 2018, [1] two passenger trains were involved in a sidelong collision at Niklasdorf, Austria. The trains were a Deutsche Bahn EuroCity express train and a local train operated by ÖBB. [2] Several carriages had one side ripped off. Carriages from both trains were derailed. One person was killed and 22 were injured. [3] Both train drivers were amongst the injured. There were at least 60 passengers on the EuroCity train. [1]
Nineteen ambulances and two emergency doctors were amongst the emergency services personnel sent to deal with the accident. [4] The injured were taken to hospitals in Bruck an der Mur and Leoben. Everyone had been rescued by 14:30. [2] The railway between Bruck an der Mur and Leoben was closed as a result of the accident. [3] The line between Graz and Sankt Michael in Obersteiermark was also closed. [2]
An investigation was launched into the cause of the accident by the Federal Accident Investigation Office (German : Unfalluntersuchungsstelle des Bundes). [2]

The Murtalbahn is a 760 mm narrow-gauge railway largely located in the state of Styria in Austria. The line runs along the valley of the River Mur, from the market town of Unzmarkt through Murau to Tamsweg, which is just over the Styrian border in the state of Salzburg. The railway is operated by Steiermärkische Landesbahnen (STLB), which is owned by the state of Styria. With a total length of 76.1 km (47.3 mi), it is the fourth-longest narrow-gauge railway in Austria.
The Friedewald train collision was a railway accident on 12 September 2009 in Saxony, Germany. It involved two steam-hauled passenger trains of the narrow gauge heritage Radebeul–Radeburg railway. One hundred and twenty-one people were injured, four of them seriously. Substantial damage was sustained by the locomotives and rolling stock.

The Rudolf Railway refers to a railway in Austria connecting Amstetten and the Italian border near Tarvisio, along with a branch from Kastenreith to St. Valentine. Its name is derived from the k.k. priv. Kronprinz Rudolf-Bahn Gesellschaft. The main line, which was opened from 1868 to 1873, ran on the St. Valentin–Kastenreith–Kleinreifling–Selzthal–Schoberpass–St. Michael–Neumarkt saddle–St. Veit an der Glan–Feldkirchen in Kärnten–Villach–Tarvisio Centrale route. The section of the line within the current borders of Italy now runs over the new Tarvisio–Udine railway through Tarvisio Boscoverde. It replaced a very windy route to Udine that originally formed part of the Rudolf Railway.

On 3 June 2022, a double decker regional train derailed north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, near Burgrain on the Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway in southern Germany. Five people died and 68 passengers were injured, 16 of them seriously.
