Nina Corti (born 3 August 1953) is a Swiss flamenco dancer and choreographer. In 2007 she was honored by the Swiss government as the first female celebrity to design a stamp for the Swiss Post.
Nina Corti was born on 3 August 1953. Her father, a musician and soloist with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, was of Italian and Spanish ancestry. Her mother, an artist, was of Russian and Polish ancestry. She has two brothers and was introduced to music as a young child. She trained as a goldsmith before receiving a scholarship from the city of Zürich to study classical Spanish dance and flamenco in Madrid and Seville for four years. [1]
After studying dance in Spain, Corti performed with Pepe Habichuela, Enrique Morente, the Ketamas, Guadiana, Manitas de Plata, the Gipsy Kings, and Pepe Justicia. She has performed at the Semperoper, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Musikverein.[ citation needed ]
In 2007, Corti designed a stamp for the Swiss Post, becoming the first female celebrity to be awarded the honor. Her stamp featured a flamenco dancer. [2]
In 2012, she became the director of the program Musica y Danza, where she choreographs works in classical Spanish dance and flamenco.[ citation needed ]
Flamenco is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. In a wider sense, the term is used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. However, its style is uniquely Andalusian and flamenco artists have historically included Spaniards of both gitano and non-gitano heritage.

The Eurovision Young Dancers 1995 was the sixth edition of the Eurovision Young Dancers, held at the Palais de Beaulieu in Lausanne, Switzerland on 6 June 1995. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, dancers from nine countries participated in the televised final. A total of fifteen countries took part in the competition. Hungary and Russia made their début while Denmark and Estonia withdrew. However, the Danish broadcaster DR broadcast the event as did Bulgaria and Romania.
María Dolores "Lola" Flores Ruiz was a Spanish actress, bailaora and singer. Born in Jerez de la Frontera, Flores became interested in the performing arts at a very young age. Known for her overwhelming personality onstage, she debuted as a dancer at age sixteen at the stage production Luces de España, in her hometown. After being discovered by film director Fernando Mignoni, Flores moved to Madrid to pursue a professional career in music and film, with her first gig being the lead role in Mignoni's Martingala (1940). Flores succeeded as a film and stage actress. In 1943 she obtained her breakthrough role in the musical stage production Zambra alongside Manolo Caracol, in which she sang original compositions by Rafael de León, Manuel López-Quiroga Miquel and Antonio Quintero, including "La Zarzamora" and "La Niña de Fuego", mostly singing flamenco music, copla, rumba and ranchera. She then started to receive widespread media coverage.

The cante flamenco, meaning "flamenco singing", is one of the three main components of flamenco, along with toque and baile (dance). Because the dancer is front and center in a flamenco performance, foreigners often assume the dance is the most important aspect of the art form — in fact, it is the cante which is the heart and soul of the genre. Mario Escudero, was one of a handful of Spanish flamenco guitar virtuosos who, following on the footsteps of Ramon Montoya, helped spread flamenco beyond their Spanish homeland when they migrated to the United States in the early 1950s. Along with others such as Sabicas, Carlos Montoya and Juan Serrano, Escudero helped forge the viability of solo flamenco guitar as a concert instrument, with lauded performances at New York's Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, and other venues. Ramón Sánchez Gómez, better known by his stage name Ramón de Algeciras, was a Spanish flamenco guitarist, composer and lyricist. He was the most prolific collaborator of Paco de Lucía, his younger brother, recording with him on most of his albums from the 1960s to 1980s and performing with him throughout much of his life as a rhythm guitarist, including the Paco de Lucía Sextet, formed in 1981, which also included his other brother Pepe de Lucía.
Juan Habichuela was a Spanish flamenco guitarist who began his artistic life as a dancer, and later learned guitar from his father and from a guitarist from Granada known as Ovejilla. He accompanied some of the most famous singers of the time such as Manolo Caracol, Juan Valderrama, Fosforito, and Enrique Morente. He was nominated for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album in 2000. Habichuela received the Latin Grammy Trustees Award in 2012 for "significant contributions, other than performance, to the field of recording during their careers".
