Nina Gantz is a Dutch animation film director and daughter of the Dutch actress Loes Luca. She is mostly known for her short film Edmond, which won the Best Animated Short Film Award at the Sundance Film Festival and a BAFTA Award in 2016 [1] [2] [3] and her short animated film Wander to Wonder (2023), which received a BAFTA nomination for Best British Animated Short and an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short Film. In 2010, Gantz graduated from the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St. Joost in Breda with the short animation film Zaliger (2010), which won a Golden Panda Award at the Sichuan TV Festival in Sichuan. [6]
In 2015 she graduated with a Master's in Directing Animation from the National Film and Television School, with her film Edmond, a BAFTA-winning stop motion short film. [1] [2] After graduating, Gantz worked on a variety of projects as a freelance animator and director. She also works on commercials as a director for the London-based production company BlinkInk. [7]
In January 2025, Gantz received her second BAFTA nomination and her first Academy Award nomination with her film Wander to Wonder (2023). [4] [5] The film is her first independent work as a director since graduating from the NFTS. [8]
The British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTA Awards, is an annual award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to honour the best British and international contributions to film. The ceremonies were initially held at the flagship Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square in London, before being held at the Royal Opera House from 2007 to 2016. From 2017 to 2022, the ceremony was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London before moving to the Royal Festival Hall for the 2023 ceremony. The statue awarded to recipients depicts a theatrical mask.
Richard Edmund Williams was a Canadian-British animator, voice actor, and painter. A three-time Academy Award winner, he is best known as the animation director on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) -- for which he won two Academy Awards—and as the director of his unfinished feature film The Thief and the Cobbler (1993). His work on the short film A Christmas Carol (1971) earned him his first Academy Award. He was also a film title sequence designer and animator. Other works in this field include the title sequences for What's New Pussycat? (1965) and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966), title and linking sequences in The Charge of the Light Brigade, and the intros of the eponymous cartoon feline for two of the later Pink Panther films. In 2002 he published The Animator's Survival Kit, an authoritative manual of animation methods and techniques, which has since been turned into a 16-DVD box set as well as an iOS app. From 2008 he worked as artist in residence at Aardman Animations in Bristol, and in 2015 he received both Oscar and BAFTA nominations in the best animated short category for his short film Prologue.
Ainslie Thomas Henderson is a Scottish animator and singer-songwriter. He gained fame via his participation in the BBC's television programme, Fame Academy, in 2002. He signed a recording contract with Mercury Records after leaving the show, having been placed fourth. His subsequent single, "Keep Me a Secret", written alongside fellow contestants in Fame Academy, reached the fifth position on the UK Singles Chart.
