Giovanni "Nino" Benvenuti is an Italian retired boxer and actor. As an amateur welterweight boxer he won the Italian title in 1956–60, the European title in 1957 and 1959, and an Olympic gold medal in 1960, receiving the Val Barker trophy for boxing style. In 1961, having an amateur record of 120-0, he turned professional and won world titles in the light-middleweight division and twice in the middleweight division. Near the end of his boxing career he appeared in Sundance and the Kid (1969) and then in Mark Shoots First (1975).
The modern pentathlon at the 1980 Summer Olympics was represented by two events : Individual competition and Team competition. As usual in Olympic modern pentathlon one competition was held and each competitor's score was included to the Individual competition event results table and was also added to his teammates' scores to be included to the Team competition event results table. - Cross-country held on July 24 at the Trade Unions Equestrian Centre
Shooting at the 1980 Summer Olympics took place at the Dynamo Shooting Range in Mytishchi in eastern part of Moscow between 20 and 26 July. Seven events were contested. Alhtough events were mixed, i.e. open to both men and women, all medals were swept by men, and there were only 5 women competing compared to 77 in Los Angeles 1984.

Nino Salukvadze is a female Georgian sports shooter. She is an eight-time Olympian and has won medals on three occasions. She will be the first female to compete in 9 Olympic Games. At age 19 and competing for the Soviet Union at the 1988 Summer Olympics, she won a gold medal in the women's 25-metre sporting pistol competition and silver in the women's 10-metre air pistol competition. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, competing for Georgia, she added to her tally with a bronze medal, also in the 10-metre air pistol event.
Women's 25 metre pistol was one of the thirteen shooting events at the 1988 Summer Olympics. It was the second installment of the event, the first to feature final shooting, and the last with the old rapid-fire target. Nino Salukvadze won the competition. Tomoko Hasegawa and Jasna Šekarić finished on the same score, four points behind Salukvadze, and Hasegawa won the silver medal due to higher score in the two-series final.
Women's 10 metre air pistol made its first Olympic appearance at the 1988 Summer Olympics. It was a high-class competition, where Nino Salukvadze, who had won the 25 metre pistol competition two days earlier, set a new world record in the qualification round, with 390 of 400 points. Jasna Šekarić was still able to enter the final only one point behind, and won it to become the first Olympic air pistol champion. Lieselotte Breker, third in the qualification round with 386, started out the final with a 0.0 and was then never in contention for the medals; Marina Dobrantcheva won the bronze medal.

The Bhutanese delegation included archer Sherab Zam and shooter Kunzang Choden. Zam was the flag bearer for both the opening and closing ceremonies. Neither of Bhutan's athletes progressed beyond the first round of their events. Bhutan was one of only two countries to have a female-only team at the 2012 Games.
Michiko Hasegawa-Fukushima is a Japanese sport shooter. Fukushima had won a total of nine medals for both air and sport pistol at the ISSF World Cup series. She also captured two medals in the same events at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul, South Korea.
Linda Maree Ryan is an Australian sport shooter. She has been selected to compete for Australia in two editions of the Olympic Games, and has collected a total of thirteen medals in a major international competition, spanning the ISSF World Cup series, the Oceanian Championships, and the Commonwealth Games. Ryan also trains under head coach Anatoliy Babushkin for the national team, while shooting at her home club, Outtrim Pistol Club in South Gippsland, Victoria.
Tsotne Machavariani is a pistol shooter from Georgia. In 2016 he placed sixth in the 10 m air pistol event at the European championships.
