Nirapada Sardar is an Indian politician,union leader and member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a MLA in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016 elected from Sandeshkhali (ST). [1] He is presently secretary of the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) and one of the West Bengal state secretaries of CPI(M). [2]
He has raised issues of illegal landgrabs,attacks on women and police inaction in Sandeshkhali for several years. His accusation are that goons of the Trinamool Congress have taken control of the area and were enjoying impunity in assaulting people and expropriating land given to sharecroppers. [3] He became a central figure during the 2024 upsurge against the local leaders of the TMC. [2]
He was arrested by the West Bengal police after the absconding TMC leader Shibu Hazra,aide of TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan,had accused him of leading the mob of 111-117 villagers who had burnt down their husbandry farm in retaliation against assaults and landgrabs. Fresh wave of potests erupted over his arrest. [4] In his support Sandeshkhali villagers kept the police station under a gherao for 17 days until his release. [2] He was bailed out by the Calcutta High Court which reprimanding the police calling for action against involved policemen for illegal arrest,torture and harassment. [5]
The All India Trinamool Congress is an Indian political party that is mainly influential in the state of West Bengal. It was founded by Mamata Banerjee on 1 January 1998 as a breakaway faction from the Indian National Congress and rapidly rose to prominence in the politics of West Bengal under her leadership. On 28 May 2010,a Jnaneshwari Express train derailed at about 1 a.m. in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal,India. It was disputed as to whether sabotage or a bomb caused damage on the railway track,which in turn led to the derailment,before an oncoming goods train hit the loose carriages,resulting in the deaths of at least 148 passengers.

The 2007-2008 Nandigram violence was one of the major incidents which saw an alleged involvement of Maoists or more precisely the cadres,armed activists and guerrillas of Communist Party of India (Maoist). Trouble started after the Government of West Bengal led by Left front tried to acquire the agricultural land in Nandigram to allow Indonesia's Salem group to set up a hub for chemical industries. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee,the then chief minister of West Bengal,accused the Maoists for the violence during the Nandigram. Afterwards,they made a report that was submitted to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Afterwards in 2014,CPI (Maoists) confirmed that they were active during the Nandigram protests and termed it as "revolutionary people’s agitation".
Shatarup Ghosh is an Indian politician from West Bengal belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM). He had formerly served as the All India Joint Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI),the students wing of CPIM and was member of its central secretariat. Then he became a member of the state committee secretariat of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI),which is the youth wing of CPIM. He has been inducted into the West Bengal State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the 23rd Party conference of state in March 2022 and currently remains a member of it.
Amit Chakraborty,a sub-inspector of Dubrajpur,West Bengal,was injured by bomb splinters during a clash between supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress at Aoulia-Gopalpur village in 2014. He succumbed to injuries after 50 days.

West Bengal School Service Recruitment Scam is an ongoing education SSC scam in West Bengal,India since 2022. The scam is being currently investigated jointly by Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate. The scam was revealed,following the arrest of Partha Chatterjee,a Trinamool Congress leader,who has served as the Minister of Education in the Mamata Banerjee's cabinet until his arrest on 23 July 2022.
On 5 January 2024,a team of Enforcement Directorate officers visited the village of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal,India,to interrogate a local Trinamool Congress leader,Sheikh Shahjahan,about his involvement with the corruption scandal of the politician Jyotipriya Mallick. Mallick,a former minister with the Trinamool Congress,pled guilty for embezzling multiple crores from food rationing funds in October 2023,implicating Shahjahan. In January 2024,the ED investigated additional allegations of sexual assault and improper land acquisition against Shahjahan. In the resulting altercation,three ED officers were injured by local supporters of Shahjahan.
